Hey all
There might be a thread for this, but I don't know how to search the site, sorry. If there is please redirect me.

Anyway, questions
Is the Neo Geo AES system region locked? If I buy one can I play games from any region on it without a modification or a converter etc?
Is the Neo Geo CD an add on for the console or is it a stand alone system? I have seen one for £100. Is the a reasonable price? (although to be honest I don't know if it is complete or if it has pads, software etc)
Is the Neo Geo CD actually any good?

Thanks

#1 I'm almost positive that neither the Neo Geo AES and CD are region locked, although I'm not 100% about the AES

#2The Neo Geo CD is its own console, not an add on . I can't say about price but that doesn't sound too far off. I believe I got mine for about $80 USD five or six years ago.

#3 Yes, it's a good console but with pretty hefty drawbacks. The biggest? It's slooooooooow. I mean really, really slow. It only has a 1x drive, so you can imagine how that operates. I think there was a slightly improved model released later on with a faster drive but if I recall it didn't help all that much. On the plus side the CD games are much cheaper than the cartridge games, so that's an important thing to consider.

1. AES can play any game from any region, The text shown on screen depends on the region of the system.
2. CD is stand-alone and it has the neo-geo pro controller (which is like a regular game controller)
3. The CD is quite slow, But the CDZ is a little faster (it's used on Classic Game Room, so You might want that) plus the discs are cheaper than the carts.

OK, so its a Japanese top loading version and comes with cables and the converter required for a UK power output. Also includes Super Sidekicks 2. The pad looks nowhere near as chunky as the stick that came with an AES, but there is an AES controller for sale in the same shop. Would that work with the Neo Geo CD?
If its Japanese, will the Euro/US games play with English text?
There is no box, so is £100 still reasonable?

I wasn't sure about the AES pad, but according to Wikipedia it should work fine.

I've only bought the Japanese version of the Neo Geo CD games (they tend to be much cheaper) but I believe the territory of the system determines the language the game is displayed in. Many Neo Geo games are pretty light on text, so that usually isn't a big deal for me.

As for the price, I checked eBay and all of the Neo Geo CD systems I saw listed with a "buy it now" option averaged $170 USD (or about £105), and none came with the box. I know that isn't a great comparison but I hope it helps!

Hey, Thanks dude, that does help. There are about 5 fighting games in the shop, non of which were more that £8, including Fatal Fury 3 and Gan Gan. Might just go buy the system, the AES stick, and all the games they have. Maybe I can get them to do me a deal.
