Ive had this idea for a thread for a little while, and thought it was worthy of posting :3 I've noticed many people's fondest gaming memories from their childhood include taking a portable game along with them on a trip. The feeling of being excited for the trip itself, as well as that feeling while playing a good game during ate long journey there is very unique and memorable in my mind. This is something gamers have experienced since the Gameboys release, up to today. The feeling of the game can often be associated with the joy of the trip, and that makes it so much better

Anyways, my fondest portable gaming probably comes from when I was 7 years old. I have a brother 11 years my senior, and he was away for college at the time in Northern Japan. Living a ways south of Tokyo during my childhood, this was pretty far from home. My mother and I planned to come visit him during a holiday in Japan called Golden Week, and stay at a popular hot spring resort during that time. Me missing my big brother, who introduced me to great games like Super Mario World, Pokemon Green, and Chrono Trigger, was extremely excited to go. Especially since it ment staying at a hot spring :3 My mother decided that we should take a sleeper train there since the trip is so far, and she thought I would be restless being a kid and all. So, two days before, my mother surprised me with a copy of Pokemon Silver that I could play on the trip, though I wasn't allowed to touch it until the night we left The game had been out for a little while, and everyone at school wanted it. I, being 7, wanted to train my Pokemon as hard as Incould during the trip so I could impress my brother once we arrived, as he also loved Pokemon.

During that trip, I recall some of my best gaming memories, and the best overall Pokemon memories I've ever had :3 I had a Totodile with the random name ヒメワリ (Himewari) and was sooo attached to her, that she was the only Pokemon I caught besides a Meowth, and I refused to evolve her... Until I couldn't win battles anymore XD I remember even playing this game after we arrived, and my brother helped me out with the lighthouse and traded me his Ninetails :3 I still have thie save file to this day :3 The best surprise has to be finding out that you could return to Kanto, as after the trip was over, that's what I spent my time doing after school every single day XD

Anyways, feel free to share your own memories! Sorry if I rambled too much lol ^^;

A 10 hour drive to Myrtle Beach and most of the way down I played Spyro Season of Ice on my Gameboy Advanced

I have pretty similar memories to yours, actually! When I was 12 I went on a road trip to the beach with my family, and I brought along my GBA and Pokemon Sapphire. I kept it in a clear plastic bag because I was worried about it getting wet. Anyway, it gets really sunny here so sometimes it was hard to see the screen. On the trip, I got up to the braille bit where you open the gates to the Regis, and I honestly thought my game was messing up so I turned it off and stopped playing

always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

I was never much into handhelds. I used to play Street Fighter 2 on those little Tiger handhelds when my parents would be running around town doing errands. I had a Sega Game Gear as a kid and when we would go on longer trips I would play Sonic Triple Trouble some but not enough time to garner any great memories with handhelds.

I turned 16 about the time Gamecube came out and I bought one of the Mario Kart Double Dash bundles when they hit store shelves. I hooked it up in my car with one of those Intec screens. We would take trips to Dallas, which is few hours south of me, and my friends would play it the whole way. Sometimes we would pull over in store parking lots just to get a couple of good games in. Those were my best memories of gaming on road trips.

Just never been much of a handheld fan. Bought a GBA day it came out and probably played it twice. My parents always got me some new TMNT toys when we went on long road trips and those kept me pretty busy. Hard to say in early 90s if I was more into video games or TMNT.
