Topic: Please help me identify a Chess game

There was this chess game I played years ago, not sure if it was on Gameboy, Gameboy color or Advance... seems like just Gameboy though.

I can't figure out what it was... Chess may not have been in the title. It had a wide variety of characters you could choose to play against and showed you their picture... it started from a kid with a very low rating all the way up to a master character. The chess games I'm finding for Gameboy don't have that, they only let you set skill level, this one showed you their profiles. Not that it is an important feature to me... its just the only way I can describe the one I am looking for.

Thanks!

I had that game but the only one I remember is Chessmaster and I am not sure if that was it or not.

I tried the Chessmaster for Gameboy and Gameboy color but they were not it... unless there is another version of Chessmaster out there...

Castle Quest maybe? Idk pretty sure that was Japan and Europe only. There is also one called Board Game Classics or something to that affect on the GBA that has a chess game.

I think Castle Quest was only released in Japan on the Famicom (though a NES was planned, renamed Triumph because of another game that localized as Castlequest) and only in Europe for the Game Boy (ROM catalogs used to call it a US version, but I'm certain it was never released here whereas I eventually found listings with photos of the EU cart). Though it wasn't much of a chess game but a chess-themed SRPG (dependent on dice rolls for damage?).

Yeah it never got released here in the states. I actually heard about it through a collector years ago when I was doing some serious collecting as well. It's not a chess game per say but like you mentioned a chess themed SRPG. Just trying to throw some ideas out there

It's not castle Quest but thanks for mentioning that, It seems like an interesting game!

I may have made a mistake here... I came across Chessmaster: The Art of Learning for the DS on Amazon and I think that might be it.... not sure though...
