Topic: Play Wind Waker now, or wait for WW HD?

I never had a chance to play the original WW for GC, but I'm able to snag a copy now. Obviously no one here has played the Wii-U version yet, but I was wondering if you guys think I should bother with playing the original beginning this weekend, or should I just wait a few months for the remake?

I planned on getting the Wii-U one, but I'm worried that if I play the GC version (and presumably finish it) I won't have the desire/need to pay full price for the remake and play through it again so soon afterwards.

If you want to spend the money, I'd hold off for the remake

As always, it's your call. If you want those HIGH DEFINITION GRAPHICS, then by all means wait and get the Wii U remake. If you just want to play Wind Waker, then go for the original Gamecube game. Of course, the nice addition of getting the Wii U remake is that you'll have a Wii U, meaning that you'll also have access to Nintendo's most recent library of titles.

ive played Wind Waker and i wanted to play through again as a part of my usual Zelda rotation but the reveal of WWHD for this year has made me hold off. But had i never played it before i tink id still hold off and forget about the GC version. once nintendo does a remake i usually cling to the remake over the original but thats just me.

Thanks for the opinions guys.

I think maybe I will play it for a couple hours or so just to get a feel for it, but try not to get too far as to not spoil the HD remake.

The Gamecube title is still impressive visual wise. I actually much prefer the colorful style over the dark, dull, "realistic" Twilight Princess

I think you'd be better off waiting. It's a great game, but it will be like 100% better on Wii U. Even if I had never played it(I completed it 100% 4 times), the remake would be the best time to get the core experience in the original, plus the extras.

I say play it. If it's the same game on Wii U but with only better graphics then whatever.

WW is kind of expensive, not too bad, but you might be able to get a good deal on it. I would play WW first only because its the original, and to me its just not right playing the remake of a game when I havent played the original.

Whatever you do, don't buy it for more than $8. That basically is not gonna happen. Like I said, it will have extras, better graphics and sound, plus be downloadable on the eShop.
This game was going for cheap when Wii came out, so you'd be ripping yourself off to buy a game that was way cheaper back in the day, and now people are just trying to make money off of it.

Don't... don't listen to SCAR.
Anyone telling you NOT to play a great game, well, that kind of self-control is just inhuman!

Playing a few hours, tackling the introductory sequences, that sounds like a good way to tap into the magic. Really it should just motivate you more to buy the Wii U version. The remake, well, there's really no guarantees. Better graphics is a good bet, the core experience will be unchanged. Any significant extras might be hidden behind a second play through, Master Quest style.

if you have the money, get both. it helps you learn to appreciate how much better the remake will be once you've played the original. and i've played the original three times.
