Topic: Paper Mario is still awesome

I've been playing this again recently and though I acknowledge the sequel is better in many ways, it's still one of my favorites. If you were to ask me how I'd put Mario in RPG form, it is a 20 hour game example of how I'd do it. It's not even that it's the best in most areas, but it comes together perfectly and does what it's supposed to do perfectly and I love it. And even the lesser parts of the game I still enjoy (barring a bit of the side content). There's no reason I should enjoy the Prologue of the game yet it still entertains me even after what is my like...8th playthrough.

Also, I'm sad I never fully appreciated the art design. Most N64 games haven't aged well graphically at all but even ignoring the fact that the game is filled with 2D sprites instead of pre-GCN models, the actual 3D objects like the buildings have this simple pop up book aesthetic that fits perfectly for N64 models. That's some classic taking advantage of your weaknesses and turning it into a strength type thing.

it also has a penguin murder mystery, best ever :3

For some reason, I didn't like it. I mean, the graphics held up well for a N64 game, but the battle system was just too shallow. It was nice that you could choose what you increase when you level up, but it got really annoying when there was nothing you could do to increase your attack until certain parts of the game. I found the story pretty bland, but that penguin murder mystery was probably the high point. And it annoyed me to no end that the seeds I spent time collecting for an awesome item just turned out to be a quest thing that wasn't optional in the first place. And, despite what people say, it had a pretty mediocre soundtrack.

Check in for new sheets every Monday. There's lots of Fire Emblem arrangements coming.

Yeah! I'm a big Paper Mario fan too. I love the aesthetic, characters, comedy, and intelligent adaptation of the Mario World (Penguin murder mystery is a perfect example--who would have thought they could take an obscure creature from Yoshi's Island and do that with it? Cool sidekicks like Koopas with bandanas, and Bob-ombs with ponytail fuses are also great ideas ). I prefer Thousand-Year Door a little more than the first (LOVED the Glitz Pit and Duplis chapters: "Freak in a Sheet!"), but personally I enjoy the first two Paper Mario games more than Mario RPG (and a lot of other Square RPGs for that matter)...I have my flame shield ready

@R_Champ Oh man i hate the Duplis chapter, cause i got stuck on that chapter for so long, i was so confused that i can't even explain it.But i still love it though, but personally my favorite chapter is the pirate one, i loved that chapter it was so badass.
