So here's my story...I played the original FFT, and while a good game, it's flawed and I feel it has "too much" with the sheer number of Jobs and abilities and the amount of time it takes to build classes...and the story kinda takes a long time to go anywhere. That said, I'm very weary of SRPGs, as I tried Disgaea but found it had the same issues of being very, very slow for my taste.

However, I decided to get FFTA and FFTA2 used the other day, and with the GBA one, I'm having a blast. The system of learning abilities is MUCH more streamlined and easier to understand, the flow and gameplay are much improved and a lot quicker, and the story has a better flow...not to mention how I like the placement system that is similar to Legend of Mana. Overall, it's excellent, and they improved a lot of the issues with past iterations...so I'm loving it so far.

I haven't played the original, but it's widely regarded as the SRPG.

I completed FFTA2, loved it. The only things I didn't like were the rare stupid battles where enemies would get to move three times before you could, 5 minutes spent doing nothing as the enemy acts...(thankfully it never occurs in any neccessary battles, only in some of the very end optional battles). But aside from that it was phenomenal.

I wasn't too big on FFTA, the difficulty is non-existant, it suffers by containing much easily missable content, and the law system was ridiculous and thus annoying. By fixing those things FFTA2 got pretty awesome.

I have Disgaea DS too. I haven't spent too much more than 10 hours with it, but from what I played I was a bit let down by the incredibly slow pace it plays at. Everything else seems cool (and uber complicated) but the pace brings it down quite a bit :

I enjoyed Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. It was a fun game for what it was. Sure, the Law System was occasionally annoying, learning new techniques was a pain(nor was it ever properly explained, forcing me to restart the entire game), and the story was downright terrible. It was still a fun, simple game that could be enjoyed in short bursts without me having to worry about restarting a zillion times. It also made for a good warm-up game before I went on a strategy game binge, since wasn't exceedingly complicated.

Glad you're enjoying FFTA - it's one of the best GBA games in my opinion.

Both FFTA and FFTA2 feel weak, particularly in terms of story, when compared to the original FFT, but they are all excellent games.

Yeah, it has flaws, but I am enjoying it much more than other SRPGs I had played in the past; I just find it more accessible. I do agree that it is silly how there is no in-game explanation for learning Abilities; still, the game is good for what it is.

My Sister is a Fan of The Final Fantasy Tactics.

But I never played it, but it seem like fun

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

While I loved Final Fantasy Tactics, FFTA and FFTA2 were a huge disappointment for me. FFT was too cutesy for what it should have been. Ivalice became that homogenised place from FFXII in 2 - even worse. Cid was even a Balthier wannabe.

But I'm glad to hear that you like it. If you're looking for a faster-paced SRPG with a very interesting story you should get Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor for the DS. It's one of my favourites.

I guess it's different for everyone. As I said, while I find the original a bit slow and tedious for my tastes, I like the improvements to the combat and the general flow of the game in the Advance games.

Also, I will agree with you on FFXII; for me, that has been the single most disappointing entry in the series thus far.

Assassins are the best thing to happen to FFTA Period

I actually didn't mind FFXII once I changed my expectations for it. It's not really a Final Fantasy game at all, it's more a spiritual successor to Vagrant Story. After realising that, I could quite enjoy the game. (But not as much as I did FF4-9 and Vagrant Story however...)

FFTA2 is easily my favorite DS game. I always find myself coming back to it.

Pretty much. They get nerfed in FFTA2, but Viera are still the best! Bloodprice+Red Magic+Summon/Assassination are too good. Summoning is a bit better, but you can't really knock a near guarenteed two KOs.

SherlockHolmes

It was a good game while I had it. I never completed it 'cos I got stuck fighting some massive amount of strong enemies.
