Shadowman, remember that game?

Hunting down serial killers was sweet. The atmosphere in that game was vastly superior than anything Resident Evil delivered up to that time.

Yeah, Shadowman was awesome. Soundtrack of the game is magnificent even without the game, it's like "Sounds From Hell" or something.

Is anyone still reading this thread?

I will admit that back in 1998 I purchased an N64 when they first began coming with second controllers (in my case the controller was "Grape" in addition to the plain grey controller. After playing Super Mario 64 and Zelda: Ocarina of Time for several months with little else that interested me during that period (remember, this was 1998), I traded it in for more Super Nintendo and Sega Saturn games as well as more Game Boy games to use on the Super Game Boy adapter for the Super Famicom/SNES.

Fast forward to late 2000: I gave the N64 another shot as by then NA gamers can purchase a new console for $99.99 USD with many of the best classic cartridges for cheap. I saw so many good carts in the clearance bins and on shelves that I decided that I would purchase one to put next to my new Playstation (which replaced my Saturn library*).

Someone wanted posters of this thread to list all of the games for the N64 that they owned? Okay, I'll post them (but not in order as I can't remember the sequence of my purchases unless I have the games in front of me):

Super Mario 64
Tetrisphere
The New Tetris (released as an answer to PS-X "The Next Tetris", but with forming combo and pure squares).
Kirby 64 (mellow gameplay with good music for an N64 game)
Donkey Kong 64 (I wanted the expansion pak peripheral, but the game itself...too many things to collect).
Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Zelda: Majora's Mask
Super Smash Bros (I unlocked all of the characters back then, but I bought it for VC anyway).
Mario Party 1 (my sister was extremely addicted to this game and always begged me to play with her).
Mario Kart 64 (sound was too muffled due to N64's lack of a sound chip in the hardware, but the gameplay was still good).
Quest 64 (yeah...moving on...)
Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber (my #1 favorite).
Ms. Pac Man Adventures (I liked PS-X's Pac-Man World, so I gave the semi-sequel a shot).
Wave Race 64
Paper Mario (pure fun, use of allies as tools for manipulating the environment was awesome back then)
Killer Instinct (as a gift, but the cartridge never worked...)
Dr Mario 64 (it had Wario as a playable character)
Pokemon Puzzle League (I was REALLY into Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow and the cartoon. Opening anime and digitized voices from the cartoon were included in the game).
Namco Museum (N64 version) - cannot be compared to the 1995-1996 PS-X versions or the PS2 launch version.

EDIT: Banjo-Kazooie (again, too many things to collect).

I'm forgetting a few games (I think I had a total of twenty-four), but I remember using the collection as a deposit for my PS2 in November 2001. D'oh! Right now I'm purchasing as many of the good N64 VC releases as I can.

*The Saturn library also went towards the PS2, but I've rebuilt the Saturn library thanks to eBay and several sites (up to twenty-five complete titles). Speaking of which, I'm checking the forums now to see of a Saturn thread was created.

I'll try to do my list from memory, the 64 was the first console I had where I had an income source (high school job @ a Carvel) so I'd regularly buy my own games rather than waiting for holiday & special occasions.

  • Yoshi's Story
  • South Park
  • BattleTanx: Global Assault
  • Mariokart
