The marraige between Nintendo and Sega seems to working out quite well (although I gather sega might be having an affair).
I recently downloaded Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and am enjoying it very much.
I've played both of the New Super Mario Bros. games, and whilst I enjoyed them, I think Sonic 4 does the new/retro thing better. It feels like an old Sonic game, but also new; it's a tricky balance to please overly nostalgic gamers like myself.
I think Sonic 4 has done the best to satiate nostalgia so far, although I've not played Donkey Kong Returns yet.
So, what do you guys and gals think is the best new/retro game right now?
Final Fantasy 4 Heroes of Light is probably my favourite because it's both retro but completely new and is an all round great game.

@Mickeymac Hmm, maybe. The gameplay style is old school with the difficulty, but then visually it doesn't try to look old-fashioned. Then again Super Meat Boy doesn't try to look retro either (it's more like a very well-done Flash game), but in terms of music, story and play style it mimics/parody old-school platformers. Perhaps neither of them, then?
Completely forgot about Mega Man 9, I suppose that kind of is the ultimate new/retro game, although I feel the updated graphics on Sonic 4 don't make it seem any less part of the series.

As @ogo79 said, the SNS-RZ-USA is a prime giveaway that it's not a legit retail cart.
And yes, he is (usually) always right, and he is (almost) the sexiest gamer out there (not counting me) ;)
I'll say the Mega Man games are the best. DKC Returns is great also. Mega Man stayed closest to it's roots, but DK took everything that was great about the SNES titles and made it better imo. It's my favorite Wii title this year.
