Which is the best way to connect a NES to a LED HD TV? using RCA composite video (yellow, white) cables or with RF switch and antenna cable. Which would give me better picture and sound quality? Can one of them decrease the input lag NES has with HDTV? Also, will the noise reduction feature turned on increase input lag?
I have an LCD, and my old systems actually work just fine (Light guns aside). Use composite, with an audio splitter (or you'll be getting mono from one speaker, not a big deal though). Also, some TV's have a "game mode", which should decrease the lag.
@WaveBoy will help you out with his old-school to new-school head of TV settings know-how wall of text
Something about black levels and PQ
If by helping him out you mean Wavavision calling him crazy for attempting to hook up a retro console to anything other than a CRT then yes you are correct.
I have to agree with Waveboy. Get yourself a CRT TV for your older systems. YOu can pick one up for next to nothing at a thrift store or garage sale. Retro system just aren't meant to be played on HDTVs.

Yes, I know old consoles work better with CTRs and yes I have my NES hooked to one. But there are times when I prefer the (much) bigger display of my LED TV than the picture quality of my CTR. There's no reason to not connect it to both TVs if you have them, that's why I ask which connection works best for NES to HDTVs, specially in terms of input lag and picture quality. @WaveBoy ?

I don't know IMO this is a case of bigger is not better. I have a 48 inch HDTV and I will take my 27 inch CRT for my NES over the HDTV any time. I don't know though maybe thats just me.

@WaveBoy So, you are saying that both connection methods give the SAME amount of input lag, right? or is one of the slightly better? Also, regarding blurriness and black levels, I can turn on noise reduction and black level to highest setting to make up for that, but doing so will increase input lag, Am I right?
@WaveBoy I tried it and I couldn't really notice difference, but there are a lot of other things that I really cant see difference when there is (like those xbox & ps3 comparisons), that's why I decided to ask here. My CRT is a 26" Trinitron so I am glad its the right size. What about N64, NGC and Wii? CRT or HD, which size?
isnt that cute. it appears youve spiked Rynos punch with something...what an entertaining sleepover host you must be

And yes, he is (usually) always right, and he is (almost) the sexiest gamer out there (not counting me) ;)

The sleepovers are great, I definitely recommend them. Between Danny Tanner and Joey Gladstone with the adult supervision downstairs and the Nintendo room upstairs you will always be entertained. That Wave Island Ice Tea was amazing by the way. Plus if you are lucky enough, the Wavester will show his toy collection!
WaveOvision bit the bait once again.lol
Now, which is the best way to connect an NES to an LED HDTV? The best way to connect it, is to not connect it at all.
Get one of these!
XD haha, was just gonna post exactly that...nice!
If you're playing your retro consoles on a modern HDTV, you're not champin'
I'm going to have to agree with the people who say to get a CRT TV. I don't have an NES so I can't comment on that, but I have played an SNES on an HDTV and I didn't think the picture quality was the greatest, and it just doesn't look right if it's on a widescreen. I'm guessing that the NES has similar problems as well, maybe even worse.

The perfect setup is a CRT and it's gotta be flatscreen. I grew up with so many tube tv's that were so curved you couldn't see health meters, status bars, life counts.
I have a 24' Toshiba CRT flatscreen and the NES/SNES/Genesis all look beautiful on it.
