Hey guys, i've recently got out my families old SNES
I found it in its own box in the garage and was very happy, so i grabbed it and hooked it up. On the first try I got no picture at all so i thought i'd swap the audio/visual cables with the nintendo 64 ones. When I plugged these in I got picture and audio but I could not get past the first screen on Super Mario all stars, so i cleaned it and still no results. I've tried all the games i own for it, i've blow in cartridges, i swabbed insides of cartridges, i've done everything i could think of. Using Battletoads Battlemaniacs as an example, i got past opening screen, i select one player and then the opening cut scene play but once it gets to the point were there is meant to be gameplay, i get a black screen. This happens with all my games!

Any suggestions?

you have changed absolutely all the power plugs for it?
its not a cartridge issue, try cleaning the CONSOLE game contacts with 91% alcohol, if that doesnt work just get another snes because then, thats yer problem. (unless you want to learn how to repair it) but i think its the snes CONSOLE contacts.
its better than yer games being the problem, troubleshoot...
usually carts are the "problem" due to improper care (but their always repairable), not retro systems failing (especially top loading systems) so im hoping its a wire issue although its probably a console with dirty contacts which does cause a system to crash, but its rare, you could be the case

As @ogo79 said, the SNS-RZ-USA is a prime giveaway that it's not a legit retail cart.
And yes, he is (usually) always right, and he is (almost) the sexiest gamer out there (not counting me) ;)

I'd try getting one of those console "gamebit" to open the console and check inside.
A garage isn't a great place for a game console, but that it's somewhat working is a good sign.
