Hey guys just a quick question I have about an N64 that I am having problems with.

So a few weeks ago the N64 worked fine my friends and I played a few rounds of Goldeneye for about an hour. When switched to the Wii U to play some Smash Bros. Long story short the N64 never worked after that. So I troubleshoot it and here's what I came up with.

AV cable when plugged into the SNES works fine when I plug it into the N64 I get no signal on my tv screen. N64 does turn on the light comes on I tried every 64 game I have and the same thing no signal. I even tried another AV cable same thing. The only thing I can come up with is that the AV port is bad on this particular N64 I tried cleaning it with canned air and rubbing alcohol and q-tips again no signal.

So I am out of ideas here. Is this a common problem? Any way to fix this without rebuilding the N64?

There could be a couple issues, it could either be the cart pin reader isn't working anymore or the AV port isn't working, or something internally. The reader or port may not look worn but it could be damaged. Common? Sort of, because of age and usage. Something is wrong with the N64 if the cord works with the SNES and you tried all the games and nothing happened. If it were me I'd for poops sake try another cord, then if not find a repair place to see what the deal is if you cherish your system, but it may cost more than $50 when all is said and done, and I see them going for like $25-65 in the used game stores I venture, even the fancy color/clear series they did aren't exceeding $65. Although the Gold is $100+...

I do not think it is the AV port at all. I think the machine is busted as the parts of the AV should work fine, even for an busted N64. My older N64 had problems you are talking about.

Here is an question? When you insert the game, do you see an jump on the screen briefly??? Usually that would indicate connection. As the screen will change into the video mode and it looks black but different then usually VIDEO black.

Again my N64 did this from playing too long with sweat and heat. It became smelly and such.
