Hey, my super nintendo (snes) has stopped working and I am not sure why. Whenever I start it up with games I know work it just shows a non stop black screen, I have tried cleaning it, but not much else. Any suggestions?

If I don't get an answer by tonight, I'm going to bury It.

It would probably be cheaper and less of a hassle to just buy another one.

It's too bad that piracy has given emulation a bad name, because video game preservation is a good cause. Hardware fails with time. We need to be able to back up and play our games forever.

But yeah, probably less of a hassle to just buy another one.

It's probably because it's a 24 year old machine and old stuff tends to break. Better go get your shovel.

My game library ranges from Mario Kart to Call of Duty to Tales of Xillia to Diablo 3 to Forza. To me gaming is about having fun - not blindly supporting only one company while thumbing your nose at "the evil other systems."

But the SNES doesn't tend to break just like that. First check your cables, the A/V cable in particular. Check if the TV is tuned to the right channel. Perhaps you accidentally moved the channel selector switch on the back of the SNES. Does the red power indicator LED light up when you switch the console on?

@Mk_II: Both the cables work, tested on another system, the led does come on, and I just tried the channel switches, still nothing though.

@ElderBanana123: my best guesstimate from a distance is that the video circuit isn't working. It could probably be repaired by an experienced tech but buying a replacement console is cheaper.
