It's hard to say... I've never played many of the games, but of the ones that I have played, Ocarina of Time is probably my favorite. After that it's Majora's Mask and third is probably Phantom Hourglass. I recently downloaded A Link to the Past but haven't been able to play it much yet. I haven't played any of the GB, GBC, or GBA Zelda games but I hope to find some of them used.

So...the best one for someone who's been too lazy to play a Zelda her entire life? Yeah, I'm lame.

I just got done with Twilight Princess, so it is very fresh in the mind.
The LOZ franchise is my all time favorite, but if I had to list them in order I would list them like this:

LOZ OOT
LOZ TP
LOZ WW
LOZ ALTTP
LOZ 1
LOZ MM
LOZ 2

I would have to say that TP is superior to OOT, but it is almost 10 years newer. I remember the magical feeling that OOT gave me when it first came out, so that's part of the reason why it's my favorite.

Wind Waker. Fantastic graphics and music and a refreshing look in the storyline. I love sailing myself and thus I had no problem with this game mechanic.

Wow, I had no idea that Nintendo didn't develop the Oracle games.
Still, I recommend Oracle of Ages... that game was fantastic. If you loved LttP, you'll probably love the Oracles too.

I'd have to say Phantom Hourglass. That game was AMAZING!

LoZ: OOT is my favorite, here's the rest(excluding the ds/gba/gb games, never played them) in the order I like:

Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Legend of Zelda
Legend of Zelda 2
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask(despised that game)

Majora's Mask was my favorite for a while, but I've gotten tired of that game now. I'm getting into Ocarina of Time again now. So I guess my favorite Zelda game is Ocarina of Time at the moment.

Well, in my mind, I believe, Twilight Princess takes all that was great with Ocarina of Time and makes it better. But, I do hope, that nine months from now I will have a new favorite Zelda!

You're rather formidable! I'm rather NOT, I'm afraid. Well, I'm formidable at book reading, but I lack, shall we say, physical skills. That said, if the history and legends of Hyrule are your cup of tea, I'm your fellow! If you're curious, just ask away."

LinktotheFuture

My favorite will always be the original Legend of Zelda, followed by Zelda II.

You know, Minish Cap is also made by Capcom too. You should play OOS and OOA because IMO they are the best handheld Zelda games (not counting Link's Awakening since I never played it).

Yeah I actually might have liked OoA even more than A Link to the Past. Apparently Capcom knows how to make a good Nintendo game.

My favorite 2D Zelda is Link's Awakening DX and my fav 3D is OoT.

Link's Awakening is simply the best Gameboy/Color/Advance game ever (except for M&L SS), fantastic story, perfect controls, flawless graphics and incredible music. It rocks the house.

Links's Awakening - Played that game a lot when I was younger. I just have not been able to get into the 3D Zelda games.
