metroid was best when it was a side-scroller. the first person games suck all because of their horrible controls...

Eh I have to disagree. I like having all of this information, it genuinely added to the worlds. I really got into like the history of the worlds in these games and it was a clever story hidden realistically inside of the world of the game. I mean if people didn't like it I guess I understand why.

Exactly. It stored information relevant to the game and provided an excellently executed back story (Explaining the Chozo's reaction to the phazon and Ridley's resurrection). It also gave clues and basically fore told future events of the Metroid universe such as Super Metroid.

Just for you.

i really do appreciate the work that went into it, though. really. as a matter of fact, i might have fallen in love with the game if it weren't for it's sloppy control scheme. i appreciate all the scanning i had to do in order to immerse myself and learn about my world. when i read through the manual, i REALLY liked the story, and i felt i'd begin to start playing all the metroid games. my only problems occurred in the game itself. the gameplay was never interrupted for story cutscenes, which bugged me because i was never told a story, i was just told to do... something... i dont know what... the game never told me what i was doing for what reason. i kept forgetting what i was doing in the game and why, so i had to dig into the manual again and again because i wasnt told the story through the game, like most games do. and as previously mentioned, the controls were a pain in the butt.

I think you're misunderstanding me. I think the Pirate Logs and Chozo Lore are great. It's the information beyond those entries that made me feel the storytelling in the Metroid Prime Trilogy is a bit cluttered. They're not recorded in her logbook at all. An Object category broken down by region would've been nice to give some importance to the details at least. Instead, we're looking at icons for scans that go unrecorded amongst those recorded in the environment. Hunters had everything recorded that was scannable, which prevented the environments from being a bit of a mess of details and gave a sense of importance to all scans.

edit: I have made a rare mistake. Hunters doesn't record everything that is scannable; however, what isn't scannable assists with player progress. All scans still have a sense of importance. I can't say the same about all of the scans in Metroid Prime.

I like FPS games that are not Metroid Prime.
The Metoid Prime plays like one of those old PC FPS games where you have to jump alot, like in Duke Nukem, and that kind of game play is very dated.
Don't get me wrong, the Primes have their moments where its not quite and boring, with someawesome boss battles, too bad the game doesn't have enough of them.

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

This is exactly how I felt about Metroid Prime's story and scanning.
@0LD_SK0OL_PUNK - Really, you should try Metroid Prime with the Wii Remote control scheme. It fixes the control problems allowing for a very enjoyable experience. If you try it, let me know what you think.

I wouldn't call it the best game but definitely in my top 5. The metriod series is my second favorite franchise right behind Zelda! I think Retro did an excellent job bringing the series into the 3d realm. I guess I'm actually one of the few who really liked Echoes. I thought it was different enough to separate it from the first but retain the same feel. More of a challenge but I loved that about it! Of course Corruption was just great as well.

It's seriously one of the best games I have ever played. I honestly could play it over and over again while never getting tired of it. I just can't believe how incredible the graphics are even today. I mean, this is a ten year old game but it puts a decent number of newer games' graphics to shame. And I'm not being a Nintendo fanboy when I said that....Retro Studios just did that amazing of a job. I'm honestly frightened of what they could pull off on the Wii U.

Also, getting the Wii version is expensive but it's certainly worth it.

I'm not saying the Prime games are awful or anything, but I could never get into the series, probably because they're first person. I much prefer the 2D ones, especially Super Metroid. just my two cents

I agree that the 2D ones were better but I still really liked the Metroid Prime trilogy
