So it's been over 10 years now since what I think is the best Metroid game yet, was released (November 17, 2002). Metroid Prime for the Gamecube. Since then, it has been re released on the Wii as part of the Trilogy collection (which may be the best 50 bucks I ever spent on a Wii game...three wonderful games on one disc, with a tin case, and art booklets with the story in it as well).

Here's a pretty cool article I found at IGN about the game that they wrote yesterday :

http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/12/06/how-metroid-found-its-...

It even talks about how Reggie talked about the series while waiting for the Nintendo World Store in New York to open up to the Wii U launch (I'm hoping he's got the series on his mind due to their being a new game being worked on).

Also, here is IGN original reiview of the game, slightly updated with their new reiview system :

Great retrospectiv. Metroid Prime was my first Metroid game, got the Trilogy disc christmas 2009. Remember i first thought it was some kind of horror shooter (wasn't very good at doing game research back then) and didn't like it to much, then i actually played more of it and i loved it.

Interesting Retro retrospective there. I have the trilogy but have only played Corruption. I would like to get around to the Trilogy someday. Super Metroid is my favorite Metroid game and I assume will remain even after I get around to Prime 1 & 2/

To blessed to be stressed.

I'd say my personal favorite is Prime 1...I think.

Believe it or not, I've never beat a 2D Metroid game (Other M doesn't really count). I've only beat the Primes and Other M.
I've played all of them, but not beat them. I really like Super Metroid, but everytime I pick it up on my Wii, I get lost after a while, and don't know where to go next.

Sums up my experience with the first two Metroid games. I have fun playing them but i very, very quickly get lost and it's not fun anymore.

You two must be some young whipper snappers! Back in my day, we spent days getting lost in games like NES Metroid and had to hand draw our own maps or trek 10 miles in our bare feet to a friends house to exchange strategy.

Hard to believe a game that's so beautiful and amazing is a decade old. I must be getting old or something...

haha. Well I'm 23. I have played games pretty much my whole life starting with the SNES, but for some reason, I turn on the first few Metroid and it's like, I go into suck mode after a while.

After getting addicted the Metroid on the Virtual Console (this summer), I decided that I want to try the Metroid Prime games that get such complements. I went to a GameStop and asked them if they have Corruption and the man at the counter said that they have a used Prime Trilogy, I was so happy and still am that I found it!

So far, I only played Prime on normal difficulty with 73%, hehe, first time, and it made me understand how much I was missing..
When I finish playing the Trilogy, I will try to 100% on Hyper, but for now I am stuck somewhere around the middle-ish of Echos, so far it is kind of annoying compared to the first.
I really should get back to it..

Anyway, sorry for sort of derailing the subject, heh.

My body is ready, can you say the same? Is your body ready?

I can never praise Metroid Prime enough. I remember everyone being so skeptical about a "Metroid first person shooter" and ok, that does sound like a blatant sell-out move, but regardless of whether it actually can be counted as a first person shooter, it is one of the finest and most well thought out games ever made. Most game developers out there could seriously learn from what this game did right, in terms of story, gameplay, atmosphere, sound design.

The Metroid Prime Trilogy is brilliant. There's nothing else I can really say about it. It's just amazing.

Yay! I purchased Metroid Prime (brand new) summer of 2003. I did not complete it. However, I have completed Metroid Prime %100 twice on Metroid Prime Trilogy (purchased brand new January of 2010). Metroid Prime is a masterpiece! Exploring is so much fun, and the music is amazing. I love all of the Metroid Prime games, and a new Metroid Prime game for Wii U would be wonderful!

Well i'm only 16 but i'm pretty bad att navigation when is comes to most games anyway. xD And another thing that keeps me away from the original Metroid is those damn flies. They respawn in a split second and they always follow you. And sinse you only start of with 30 life after you die, most of the time i would respawn just to get killed by a flie. Would love to try to beat both games someday though. Should probably make my own map, just to be old-school...

I still haven't finished any of the 3 Metroid Prime games. I have the trilogy, just haven't gotten around to beating any of them. I restarted a play through of the original Metroid Prime back in October and got pretty far.

I remember renting Metroid prime 1 from Blockbuster a few years ago and instantly returning it once I found that it was a first-person view instead of a 2D side scroller. So this doesn't bother me unless the new MP will be 2D.

The Metroid Prime Trilogy was excellent and very memorable, BUT...it will never surpass the 24 MEG cartridge labeled Super Metroid...

With kind regards,

I found Metroid Prime to be too much for the Gamecube personally. It looked a generation ahead, but played like a generation behind. That release, to me, is highly overrated. Now, the release via Trilogy is amazing in comparison and allows the experience of Metroid Prime to contend for a Top 5 position. I personally have a hard time getting behind Metroid Prime though, as it doesn't realize its own backstory. It's not a complete game.

eh, I can see the problems with the controls, but I actually think it worked very well considering the type of game they were going with.
