Topic: For the love of Metroid

So Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, and now Kirby have all gotten recognition for their respective anniversaries. The only major one left out is Metroid, and its 25 year mark has come and gone already. Anyone else wish Nintendo recognized Samus a little more? Does anyone think they might be waiting until 30 years just because Zelda had the same anniversary year as Metroid did so they decided to just focus on one? Sound off with your thoughts.

well maybe it's with the other m being lowly selled but i guess they are thinking for something epic with it so it will be good again i liked other m but much ppl hated it:/ but yeah metroid was 25 years too kid icarus got a new game for their 25 annivarsery but i hope they don;t throw away the franchise becuase it's one of my favorite nintendo franchises:(

please nintendo metroid for 3ds and wii u pretty please.....the prime hunters online was very good why not include that in metroid games? but improved then more people will buy it for sure and why not add an co op too that would be awesome too!

I'd love to see a new kind of Metroid on the 3DS or Wii U, but I don't expect any sort of Metroid compilation like Kirby's getting. What would Nintendo do? We already got the Prime Trilogy.

@Gamesake, they could remaster Super Metroid in HD, I would cry tears of joy.

Metroid, as my all-time favorite video game franchise, was sadly neglected by Nintendo. The GC and Wii era had a big resurgence of Metroid, but Other M (I still believe that Other M stands for Other Mistake, lawl) ruined the franchise. I can't believe NL, IGN, and Nintendo Power gave it a 9, 8.5, and 8.5, respectably. [rant] The game was decent (props to Team Ninja for cool gameplay and visuals), but it lacked content (8 - 10 hours? Seriously?) and originality (I want new power-ups). Plus, it wasn't truly a Metroid game. It looked like a Metroid game, but where was the exploration? Where was the hidden power-ups? Where was the huge, sprawling world? Other M subtracted content instead of adding content, with a smaller playtime compared to Metroid Prime 3, and less places to go to. And don't even get me started on the god-awful script that actually did NOT take the Metroid timeline to account, no matter how much Sakamoto wants to say otherwise. It wasn't Team Ninja's fault (in fact, if it didn't have the name Metroid on the box, I would think the game would be an awesome action title), it was Nintendo / Sakamoto's fault for incredibly linear gameplay for a Metroid title, horrendous script, and rehashed power-ups (they aren't bad by any means, but I want something new). And to think that Sakamoto helped direct Super Metroid, my favorite game of all time... sigh... [/rant]

Whoops, I got off topic. For Metroid's 25 Anniversary, I want a new 2D Metroid on the 3DS with twice the amount of content of Super Metroid and the lore of the Prime trilogy. Without Sakamoto. He is up there with the worst script writers out there. It should have a story, no doubt, but allow sequence breaking and such. I want action-exploration with Samus being the badass she is, not some stupid linear game with Samus, who is synonymous with the word awesome, having breakdown scenes that don't make sense at the slightest. In fact, it should follow Half-Life and Kid Icarus: Uprising's example: mix cutscenes with gameplay to add immersion, not take away from. But yeah. Accomplish half of what I want up there, and you'll see me at Gamestop buying it day one.

but knowing nintendo they will not give up on metroid if they take the same aproach as kid icarus and spend a little more time on it then it will sell ofr sure

You do know that Fusion is just about as linear as Other M, right? Personally, I find those two games to be an alternative yet equally valid way to play Metroid.

The script is horrible, but how did it mess with the timeline? The Metroid franchise does a great job of avoiding continuity errors among series that attempt continuity.

Out of the 4 though ( Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Metroid) I think it's the least well known, and there haven't been a great deal of games following the same style. Or maybe there just want anything prepared this year. Zelda fans got a 4 Swords remake, but that's it. Links awakening and Ocarina of time were going to be rereleased anyway. It is strange that a new Metroid game hasn't been announed for the 3DS yet though.

With that said, I am not the least bit angry that they haven't announced my favorite franchise getting a sequel or remake. I believe they are biding their time and possibly saving the big surprise for last. Knowing Nintendo they must have not liked the STUPID way people reacted to Metroid Other M. Naturally, they'll be making a new Metroid that holds more true to Samus's "Bad Ass Loner Girl" gimmick as most wanted it it. It would make sense to say she's only an indecisive little girl when Adam is around, but I'm not gonna jump to assumptions. I am just certain that Nintendo is working to capitalize on Metroid and make it the best there is, once again, as it was on the Super Nintendo. Probably taking the personality from Prime and using the gameplay elements that worked, but bringing the third person and sheer awesomeness of Other M to the Wii U, with the control pad serving as first person if you hold it up -even using it to look around the room- or switching visors... I trust and believe in Nintendo, and I know that once Metroid is announced for the Wii U everyone will understand why it took so long, and furthermore, once it is released for the Wii U, people will understand that the Wii U was practically build AROUND the thought of a new Metroid game.

it all started really from that terrible- and somewhat laughable G4 rant, i meant, review by morgan, or what's-her-face. the score of 2 out of 5 put a lot of people off from buying the game, not to mention lots of scathing or hate towards the metroid franchise.

I still think this is the best Metroid game ever.
I wanted a game like Other M since I finished Super Metroid 100% under 3 hours.
In all these years (1995-2010) I was waiting for a sequel... 15 years man!
Metroid Fusion didn't come close to SM and didn't do it justice (I wanted a highend home console sequel, no handheld game),
and the Prime's are not even Metroid (at least not the classic Metroid I've grown up with and loved). 2D ftw!!
Other M is just perfect. 10/10

If it weren't for Other M, Nintendo would have no problem celebrating Metroid's 25th anniversary. I think the backlash from that game was so enormous and hate-filled that Nintendo thought they needed to put the series on the back-burner to remove most of the bad memories.

I think Metroid other M is great!
I don't see why it gets all the hate it does.
