Topic: Mega Man Anniversary Collection!

Alright, So I finallly got a copy of the MM Anniversary collection for the GameCube and I'm slightly dissapointed for a few reasons. First of all, the A and B button switch was a horrible idea. Not only is it alittle more difficult to use gameplay wise but it's the complete opposite of what Mega Man has always been. It slightly hinders the game play and makes jumping and shooting alittle trickier, Especially for 4,5,6 and 7 when having to power up the Mega Buster. Stupid move Capcom...But I'm guessing they wanted to emphasize the big 'A Button' on the GameCube controller as the Action Button, still...stupid move ;p

Another peeve of mine is the sound...it sounds slightly echoey...not as crystal clear as it should be. I noticed Mega Man's buster shots sound weird, as if they were coming from far away in the background, while the music took over. Also the Menu's are terrible if you ask me.Having to walk Mega Man into a door to select the game and so on. it looks horrible and it's alittle annoying. But that's not really a complaint or anything, after all it's alll about the Games.

On the flip side, based on a few minutes i played of each game(I've already beaten 1,2,3,4,5,6 and 8 way back in the day so I'm just playing around) everything seems to look and play perfectly. And like I mentioned before, I've never played MM7 before, so this was my first chance....I really dig the colorful look and how it's more in tune with Mega Man 1-4. But what's the deal with the slightly blurry sprites? The backgrounds and so on look clear and sharp, but some of the sprites(Mega Man for ex.) and so on do not. Was this the case in the SNES version? Anyhoo, it seems like a decent game yet I've.only played the intro and Cloud man's stage. I also gave MM8 alittle playthrough and once again i'm reminded by the horrible music and Voice overs ;p it's got great controls though, better than MM7's.

And NO i would never use the GameCube controller to play this. As to why I baught an SNES Retro port, so i can use my SNES controller, since the gamecube controls/buttons are mapped to it. I so need the NES retro port for MM1 - 6 though ;p
But ya like I was saying, It's a shame Capcom did the A and B button switch because it kind of hinders the experience if you ask me.That alone makes me not want to play these games because of it, argh.

Well, I just read some info for the GCN version of the MM Anniversary Collection and apperantly MM7 received a crappy emulation. The Ending cutscene is missing where Mega Man walks away from Wily's Castle. There's slowdown, some of the Sprites are Blurry ect. As if the B and A button swap and weird sound was bad enough ;p At least I can play MM8 properly...Then Again, I think I'll just get myself a copy of MM8 for the PSOne and play it on my PS3 ;p

Anyways, the MM Anniversary collection for the GCN isn't worth buying. what a waste of $15, yargh.

Aw come on, keep the collection for your memories down the road. And yes, the button switching was a terrible idea, but the extra "challenge" was kind of a way to...um, overlook the other problems? >_>

...And have fun playing MM7, especially the final fight! MWA HA HA....who am I kidding, you're really good at Mega Man games and will probably have no problem with it, but at least humor us and say you died a couple of times when you get that far.

ya that's if i bother to play MM7 on it ;p I mean I want a better experience with it. since the emulation for it is bunked with slowdown, blurry sprites, and of course the B and A swap. The thing is eBay has the actual SNES MM7 going for $50 or more and i dont feel like dropping that much cash right now. And there's no way it will hit the Wii VC anytime soon ;p

Anyhoo, MM10 is hitting March 1st, ahhh I'm gonna have alittle Mega celebration hehe.lol
And heh, I'll destroy Wily in MM7...then again, in MM9 he definitly gave me alot of trouble and apperantly he's even harder in MM7 ;p

I dunno. The first 3 MM's hit the VC pretty close to each other. Maybe we'll get lucky and have the same thing happen to 4-7?

I only played the GC version of MM7, so I don't know what this "button swap" thing is.

Atomic Planet made the Anniversary Collection, not Capcom.

lol. ya well this is the big problem i have with NES VC games,...the Color and brightness are horrible for them. They're just poor emulations regarding it. The Colors look dark, washed out, same with the brightness. Yet when actually playing NES games on an actual NES the colors look vibrant, colorful and the games are bright like they're supposed to be....For example, those MM Nes games on the Anniversary collection even look more colorful due to my Component cable connection when compared to the Nes's A/V connection...I went from playing MM2 on my Wii Virtual Console, and MM2 on the Anniversary collection and the difference is night and day. MM2 on the VC looks awful color and brightness wise. totaly sucks the enjoyment, feel and look of the game on the Wii.

I'm not downloading any more Nes VC games, the experience is totaly hampered because of the colors and brightness ;p
I dont understand why Nintendo cant fix this with a firmware update?
I should seriously start alittle thread(with pictures from my Camera) about this little VC Nes issue ;p

But ya, to get the real deal you really just need to buy the games on the system they were made for. I have MM2, MM4 and MMX for their systems, it's just a matter of dropping $50 for MM7 ;p

Actually, and this is a no brainer that obviously helps. If you(like me) can't stand the darker, washed out colors for 'Nes' Wii Virtual Console games. Then just make another Picture settings mode on your TV. Up the Color, Picture and brightness(alittle so your black levels dont get brighter) and you can get even a better Picture than Actual Nes games themselves regarding color/brightness. but it all depends on your TV. CRT's are better regarding this. And of course, the only real advantage the Wii VC games has is that you can play them using a component cable which gives you a clearer/sharper image and Progressivescan. but ya, yadah yadah ;p

Anyways, when exactly does MM4 hit the Nes Virtual Console? I mean it may not be the greatest MM game, it was just decent, yet still fun of course. For me, i definitly liked the Robot Masters in 4 more than 3's....Except Drill man ;p And it's a more colorful game(sort of intune with MM2) than the darker MM3

But I'm just not crazy for the Mega Buster....it kind of over powers the Boss weapons that you get in ways.
Anyways, 4 definitly beats out 5 and especially 6 for me....But I have a feeling I'll be getting them all when they're relased

Actually, this would be awesome to see. I wasn't aware of the problem, and don't have a way to check the compaison myself.

Alot of people aren't actually aware of the problem which is suprising. I've seen some complaints online, as well from ScrewAttack.com. But ya I'll totaly get on that, I'll create a thread about it and post up some comparison screens. Games like Mega Man 2, Super Mario Bros 2, Zelda ect. You will see the difference.

Hell I played MM2 on my MM Anniversary collection running through component and the colors look amazing like they should. beyond what you would get back in the NES days using composite. NES 'Wii' VC games look like crap in comparison. Dark, washed crappy colors ect. ..And they're of course even worse using a Wii Composite cable(and whoever does use one, get component pronto!)

Anyhoo, comparison pics should be up in a week or so. I'm waiting to get my main Computer fixed
