Has anybody played the version of the original King's Quest available for Sega Master System? I'm a huge fan of the game (and the series in general), and was wondering how it compares to the original DOS/PC version.

Never played it, but given that the original was a parser game, my guess is "not very well".

Yeah, that's my suspicion as well. Most of the console conversions of those games came out poorly. But i have the opportunity to grab a copy of it cheap, so i'll probably check it out regardless. I'm mostly curious, since i only recently discovered that the port even existed (i had thought the earliest console ports of the KQ series was either IV or V).
