Topic: Japanese Super Mario Bros 2 on a NES cart?

I am just wondering if the Japanese Super Mario Bros 2 is on a NES cart, and if so, if I found one, would it play on my NES Top Loader? I have downloaded the game from the VC, but I think it would be cool to have the physical game as well.

It's on a Famicom Disk.

Yep, I have the Disk System version myself. Love it.

That it was on a disk doesn't really prove anything, since several games got both disk AND cart releases.

But yeah, no, the original SMB2 was disk-only.

How would I look up the Disc System on eBay? Famicom Disc System?

Disk with k.

Note that it's an add-on, though, not a standalone system, so you need to get a Famicom as well if you want one.

Keep in mind that the disks are prone to data loss much like any magnetic media. Also at the time of their release it was possible to go into stores and have the games overwritten with a different game so if you try to buy some games make sure you know what you're getting. Some people have bought games only to find a different game is on there.

Sounds like more trouble than it is worth. I also saw that there is a rubber band that can wear out, making the system useless unless you know how to replace. I will stick with the VC version. Thanks everyone.

Yeah, but changing out the belts isn't tough. I have a Sharp Twin Famicom and the original Famicom Disk System and I've changed belts on them both. Not very difficult at all. Tracking DOWN the belts is more difficult than changing them out. I lucked out and found a place that had a big stock and I bought 10 of them. LOL.

I have a pirate version of SMB 2 Japan that is on a Famicom cart, does that count? You can play it on a NES with an adapter.
