Don't feel bad if you've got a bootleg because everybody who has bought at least some GBA carts has got a bootleg too. I myself had a few obvious ones.
I'm not convinced Final Fantasy VI Advance was ever a real game, considering how many fakes I've run upon over the years...
I'm going on the assumption mine is real. I know I bought it "new" at GameStop back then, but I'm assuming if I at least bought it release day that's not enough time for them to secretly play it first.
The battery is also a dead giveaway that the cartridge is fake. The only GBA cartridges with batteries are Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, and those only controlled the clock. Real GBA cartridges use non-volatile memory for their save data, not battery backup like older cartridges, but a lot of bootlegs use batteries.
