I could never get into Sonic Heroes, but I've heard good things.

I liked Sonic and the Secret Rings, but it was sooooo~ annoying to go back to the menu screen each time! Bleh! Even when Sega does make a decent Sonic game, it's like they sit in meetings all day to decide how to make it as annoying as possible.

Adventure's camera issues weren't considered such a big deal in '99, since most 3D games had them at that point, and this game moved faster than most. There were also plenty of glitches, but they didn't make the game unplayable (some are actually good for exploiting). If I could get all of the emblems and complete it, anyone can. The issue was they continued to make Sonic games and NEVER improved the camera while 3D video games and hardware continued to improve and move forward.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

Secret rings not bad? Thats the awful one, not sonic heroes.

BulbasaurusRex

Secret Rings is better than some, but it has some major control issues, and the on-rails movement doesn't work that well for Sonic.

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

I liked Sonic Heroes, too. Sue me.

I'm back (for the moment)!

MetalMario

The cut scenes are corny, but this is the best 3D Sonic game by far, IMO.

Sonic Heroes doesn't suck because I completed it. I COMPLETED IT! All you people saying "Sonic Heroes sucks" makes me feel like you are kicking me in the balls.

I can understand if you don't like the game, but the fact I COMPLETED IT means it can't have been as bad as you all make it out to be.

^Sonic Heroes sucks and I completed it. It's the only 3D sonic I ever beat, mostly cause I was snowed in and it was that or play GC Mario Kart....it's a broken joke of a 3D platformer. I've beaten tons of crappy games--that doesn't make them any less crappy. It just makes me kinda dumb for wasting my time playing them so much.

Sonic Adventure is substantially worse, however--the camera is unforgivably poor regardless of setting and it's just not fun.

I remember playing Sonic Adventure as a small child, and even then I thought it was horrible. I played it recently, and it sucked even more. I'd give it a 4 by todays standards. It's really bad.
Considering you could put $10 towards a good sonic game on XBL or PSN, I'd recommend you skip for eternity.

Most people feel about Sonic Adventure the way I feel about Mario. 2-D was Amazing, 3-D was okay... I love Sonic Adventure and SA2, owned both on the Dreamcast and would love to play them again. I think it must all come down to nostalgia for games. I stopped gaming around the time the N64 came out and I don't think Mario64 is worth a 10/10... But Mario3 and SMW are worth it. That is my nostalgia for old school mario. Blah Blah Blah... did I have a point when I started this?

What kind of argument is that? I completed the CDi Zelda games. That doesn't mean they're any good.

My take on some of the 3D Sonics.

Sonic Adventure. It's far from perfect, but it's definitely worth your while. The Sonic levels, and, to a lesser extent, the Tails levels, all have an incredible sense of speed and beauty. The first stage was unforgettable. The Gamma levels get some points for a fun factor. The exploration element isn't as awful as many are prepared to say, but that's not to say that I was too hot on the idea of wondering where to go in a Sonic game. The Knuckles levels were confusing, frustrating, and headache-inducing. The Amy levels were a half-baked attempt at making levels that were clearly meant for Sonic but putting a slow character in them. The Big levels were unforgivable. Whose idea was it to put FISHING in a freaking SONIC GAME?! The camera isn't as crappy as many are prepared to say it is. The cutscenes were rather stupid, and the voice acting was less than pleasant (thank God for being able to change the voices to Japanese), and the way the characters moved their mouths was flat-out creepy. Nevertheless, the graphics were damn good by the day's standards. The opening sequence blew me away. And the soundtrack is incredible. Overall rating: 7/10

Sonic Adventure 2. The Sonic and Shadow levels were unbelievable, and did not disappoint. The Knuckles and Rouge levels were still as frustrating as ever, and I will never, EVER forgive them for placing rap music in the Knuckles levels for BGM. Spare me. The Tails/Eggman levels fit the same mold as the Gamma levels from the prequel, and retained the fun factor remarkably well. The game did not improve graphically from Sonic Adventure, which was less than pleasing. Save the crappy Knuckles BGM, the soundtrack was still memorable. The voice acting could have been better, but there's still the option to change it to Japanese, which was good. An element that I liked in SA2 was the kart racing minigame. That played surprisingly well, and was a nice little time consumer. SA2's camera was less infuriating than the camera in its prequel. It also omitted the exploration elements, something I'm grateful for. Sonic Adventure 2, though not without flaws, improved remarkably over the first. Overall rating - 8/10

Sonic Heroes. The last remotely good 3D Sonic until Unleashed. The voice acting improved some since the last two games, and the soundtrack was, dare I say, BETTER than that of the Adventure games. Heroes was also graphically superior to the Adventure duo.

Level design and control, however, is where Sonic Heroes fails. Some of the levels (Bingo Highway, for example) were experiences to be remembered, and I got a thrill out of Egg Fleet. Levels such as Frog Forest and the Power Plant, however, were just plain infuriating and bland. The controls were rather awkward, and I still remember how much I loathed playing as Team Rose. It's as if SEGA intended to target prissy little girls with them. A saving grace of Sonic Heroes is the bonus stages - those were memorable experiences. Speeding through the bonus stages, chasing after Emeralds... it was like playing a graphically improved Sonic 2. As for multiplayer, the potential fun in those minigames got sucked up by the intolerably choppy frame rate. The controls are awkward in this game, and don't exactly function well. Sometimes, when you switched team formations, one of your guys would be flying all over the screen trying to find his correct spot in line. Sometimes, when you attempted the Homing Attack, you'd find yourself gnawing at your control stick because of cheap death after cheap death. Grr. Sometimes, on a level like Bingo Highway, your character would supposedly brush against the wall... AND THEN FALL AS IF IT WASN'T THERE. ARGH. The boss fights were OK, though, and I enjoy how they went back to showing me whatever of Eggman's creations I would be battling, and they're actually more fun than in most Sonic games. All in all, Sonic Heroes was a potentially incredible experience, but was marred by flaws here and there, and really makes the game frustrating. Overall rating - 5/10

Oh, and in all three of the early 3D Sonics, Omochao was annoying. Though it was funny when you'd hit him with a homing attack in SA2 and he'd rave about "I'M NOT GONNA BE UR FRIEND" or "I'M NOT GONNA HELP U" or something like that, then help you the next time you found him.

Sonic Heroes is great, and those who say otherwise can be smited by Big the Cat.

Sonic heroes is awful sloppy platforming, cheap enemies, weak, repetitive combat, and Big the Cat. i know a lot of people actually like it, but along withe every other sonic game on the PS2 or GC, i hated it

I absolutely love the way SA's Sonic stages are designed. Unfortunately the game is really glitchy, and the non-Sonic levels SUCK.
