There is someone who still plays this wonderful game? It's the only one i play from the GC days, i have other games but i never used them anymore. I still find amazing the polarity and the levels structure, a real challenge every time!
I keep telling Sean Aaron to pick it up on eBay, but he's too tight!
I agree it's a great game. I bought it back in the days for the DreamCast, had it on the Cube too... now I play it on XBLA for the online scoreboards. What a game.
If anyone reading has never played this gem of a game, then check this out. It explains it better than I ever could:

"If you suck at video games, don't bother reading this review because this game is hard and I don't want whining retards who can't pass the first level bitching to me about it. When I say this game is hard, I mean hard like nipples-on-a-blind-lesbian-in-a-fish-market hard. "
I must admit I kinda suck at this. I can get through level 1 with a A+ rating because I have pretty much memorised it... but I am lucky to even build up a chain of 50 on level 2. I am happy if I can beat the boss without losing a life.
By the time I get to level 3 all my skill goes out of the window and it is just about not dying for me! Level 4 is a disaster, then I have to start using continues like a dweeb!

There was a time back when it came out, i have done a score around 12'000'000, but now i can't finish the third level without continue! It's really engaging and time consuming, try, try, try, die, die, die...i even bought the Hori Pad only for this game, it's really comfortable!
Sometimes i just say to myself...don't try to chain all! But i can't resist and i keep dying, lol!
I bought it when it was the deal of the week offer on the XBLA (400 points) and it's absolutely amazing. I'm rubbish at chains though and so far, I can't get past level 3 when doing all the levels but I love it nonetheless
I remember turning my TV on it's side to get the full screen goodness, that alone made the game feel special. Never mind the fact it bombarded the senses as you went from black to white and back again, repeatedly, desperately trying to dodge/absorb incoming attacks/ammo.
I'm not the biggest shmup fan but this is still one of the best games I've ever played. Such a simple concept, but one they perfected.
Ikaruga is great. It allows people who suck at shoot em ups (hello) to delude themselves into thinking they are awesome for awhile, at least if they're playing on Easy or Normal. Furthest I ever got was probably less than halfway through level 4, and only once was that without a co-op buddy.
