i HIGHLY doubt that it was an import. however, i suppose anything is possible lol. i am saying i doubt it because when i was that age, i rented this mystery game from a tiny little convenience store in chillicothe, illinois.....which happens to be "the heart of the midwest". so basically, the most boring area of the united states. this is why i doubt its imported-ness.
Don't think it was one of the Breath of Fire games, eh? Wasn't really side scrolling but does have a similar part like you are talking about. Or Earthbound lol
seriously though, i have thought about it being some weird fever dream for a LONG time. i, also for the longest time, was convinced that i had fever dreamed the "howard the duck" movie. but that one was a thing.....soooo yeah.
that.....is a possibility. i dont think its the 7th saga, but that is the first suggestion that has made me not sure. i am gonna watch the 21345234 hours of walkthrough on youtube to see if it rings any bells....will be back in 21345234 hours!

def not 7th saga...i just skimmed through 2 and a half-ish hours of video walkthrough. i was hopeful for that one. i think that when you are in towns in my mystery game, that you are a smaller icon for your character. a la final fantasy.
