The yellowing is normal for most gray Nintendo consoles.
I know there's a homebrew developed cleaning solution to restore color (Retro-bright), though some have said it's only temporary and likely to come back in a few years.

Huh, I have had my SNES for a few decades and it's still as gray as it was when it was new.

Then again, it spent most of that time in a dark storage space. Should I worry about this?

@Morpheel: I not got my one in 1992. I just buy it yesterday in a retro shop. It a bit yellowed. I can restore it to the gary or buy a new case for it.

From what I've read, it's how the plastic was manufactured. The consoles were manufactured by several factories and only some of those used the "bad" plastics. It probably doesn't matter where you put your console. Like I have several SNES games (the cheap Majesco prints) I've probably barely touched and they looked scratched to heck and back.

@KingMike I read that it was due to a chemical reaction between UV light and the fireproof chemical they add to the plastics. Some regions didn't get the fireproof chemical so no yellowing occurs. Those are hard to find.

@OneBagTravel: I believe Nintendo did pick up on this issue during production, and so some later models left out the Bromine altogether.
