Feels so good, had it over 10 years and can now cross it off my backlog list.

Nice one. I still need to complete it some time. I always end up getting stuck somewhere with no ammo and low health though :(

Have you completed the original, along with 2 & 3?
Zero is worth checking out if you can ignore some of it's short commings....Leeches? The lead villian looking like some Sailormoon Castlevania Reject? He sings Opera to command leeches? Giant Bio weapon frogs that are about as threatening as a sleeping poodle? )

I'd love to forget it even happened, same deal with Code Veronica. The characters and plot got absurb with those two games, where as 1,2 and 3 are more grounded and felt like a b-grade remero flick. ;)

Is it worth seeking out all of the Resident Evil games for the GC? Or just the exclusives like the RE Remake, Zero, and 4 (All of which could be substituted for Wii versions I suppose) and downloading the rest on online stores from Sony and Microsoft?

It seems like it's always a tough feat for those who have to zap back to a world of FirstWave 32-Bit Polygons, which we can all agree haven't exactly aged gracefully in this day and funktastic(Yeah right...) age. Especially for those who started out with the REMAKE or ZERO. Still, RE 1,2 & 3 on the PSX still look pretty solid. And that's because the environemnts are prerendered, so there's tons of detail which perfectly sets the atmosphere and makes the experience all the more immersive.

I'd personally just play them in order. Go for RE1(not the remake) on either the PS1 or download it on the PS3, then move onto 2, 3 and Code Veronica on the Cube. After that blast straight into the Remake and Zero. Getting that 32-bit - Gamecube graphical transition will blow you away. The PS1 downloads on the Playstation network look soft, the GCN versions are the way to go if you want the best possible picture quality.

Anyways, Gamers always seem to be spoiled by the remake and Zero's visuals, that it's very discouraging for them to play the older 'classic' titles in the franchise. 1,2 and 3 as far as i'm concerned are thee' best in the series. Followed by the remake. ;)

Unlike the poster above, I recommend going through the entire series on the GameCube if you can get hold of them. I started with Zero, Remake, 2, 3, CV and then 4. There's just something special about playing through an entire series like this on a single console. RE 2 and 3 certainly look the worst of the bunch but the GC versions are still going to be the best looking versions you can find.

My favourites would be Remake, Re4 and CV (opposite of the poster above) but the fact is all six games are a lot of fun and, really, I'd say play them all. The original RE you can probably do without, though. I still enjoy playing it for nostalgia reasons, but without that, it doesn't do anything that the Remake doesn't do better.

best way to approach this game is keeping all the magnum ammo till the end and burn all zombies near the save rooms.

Yeah when you actually go back to retro Resi City and finish them all with multiple playthroughs and get different endings then you can fully understand how much Crapcom killed one of their great franchises like a well placed shot to its exploding cranium ;)

1, 2, 3, CV, Dead Aim, Outbreak 1 & 2 REmake & Zero I thought were awesome but my fav is always gonna go to RE 3: NEMESIS :)

Here is a video of some parts of the Gamecube port... The music in this game I reckon would have to be some of the best in the series especially that haunting save room tune ;)

Yeah, i guess skipping the Original RE for the remake instead would be alright. Personally, i was all Resident Evil'd-out by the time the remake hit the shelves. The only thing keeping me glued to the screen were the amazing graphics, the fact that it was a 'remake' of my favorite RE game of all time and that it wasn't just a 'dot for dot' remake, a lot was changed actually...In many ways for the better, but that always wasn't the case.

I was so dissapointed with the way the remake handled...SPOILER > Forest's Death...In the original, you were introduced to a narrow creepy brightly lit hallway with a bit of blood scattered on the wall. Which lead to the porch where Forests body was in clear sight. In the remake, it was too dark, the camera angle was piss poor and it was completely forgettable. Just one example! Yet I got a kick out of Kenneth's 'death reveal' footage from that video tape you find later in the game. :p But i wasn't sure what to make of Lisa....I liked the idea and all, but the excecution was a bit underwhelming. Still, her situation and what she went through via the journel was possibly the saddest moment in RE history, tee hee.

@MadAussieBogus

Dude, I LOVE me some RE3: Nemmy' :D I actually have it on the cube and it easily has the most replay value of any of the old school re games. I just love that it finally breaks the traditional RE mold of being confined to a large indoor area(Mansion and Police station) and lets you breath for once, while taking on swarms of the undead out in Racoon City. I've always loved how you could hear the screams of citizens out the distance getting slaughtered by zombies. :p

I thought it was actually better than 2. Silly Leon and his cheesy Bright blue plice jumpsuit and stylish anime mushroom cut.
Anyways, while we're on the subject, have you tackled RE6 yet? I couldn't Stand the demo...
Possibly the most horrid RE experience I've ever endured. Chris's scenario felt like a generic 3rd person shooter, Leon's was boring, and
i didn't even bother with Jakes. They totaly botched the controls, and the game even tells you where you're supposed to go. wtf.lol

It's More horrid than the cancelation of Nintendo Breakfast Cereal. :O I still want to see a Wii U version with Pointer controls though...I mean i have to play it, it's RE after all. Yet I dread the though of playing it on the PS3. First of all, i lost my PS3 power cable, i don't have a set of component cables(HDMI bumps up the lag on my HDTV) and i hate using the analog sticks to aim. Hell if this were the gamecube controller i'd be more comfortable, but the dual shock controller has thee worst analog sticks in the biz'. They're just too loose and cheap feeling. It's been that way for 3 generations now, it's bloody ridiculous. So yeah...I think i'll just wait it out for a Wii U version.lol

@Waviodudskibeezlebubwhatdafuq? yeah it was quite the premo package with everything you mentioned bro ;) also the bullet creation tool and choose your own adventure cutscenes added alot to the mix... But the best would have to be Nemmy showing up unexpectedly with that music kickin' in almost giving me a damn heart attack :) F***!

Nah haven't tried RE6 and after checking out some gameplay vids on youtube I don't think I really want to put the final nail in the zombie coffin ;) besides I'm having a blast playing ZombiU to even care about RE6.

Still I don't know how I feel about having to pay such high prices for Resident Evil 2, 3, and Code Veronica X on GC when I could easily buy them off the Playstation store for fairly cheap and the only difference being a little picture quality. Additionally how are the versions of the RE games on Wii? If there is no benefit over one or the other I'll probably go the Wii route as it's just easier to find.

The Wii versions of REmake, Zero and 4 support 480p 16:9 widescreen so it looks even better on a HDTV ;)

So maybe Wii and PS3 will just fit me for Resident Evil? It'd be nice to have the Gamecube collection, but I don't feel like paying a fortune for it.

Well, RE2 & Code Veronica X on the Cube go for around $45 CAD on eBay...So ya, your best bet is probably just to score RE1, 2 & 3 on the Playstation Network. Then just get Code Veronica X on the Cube. The Wii versions of the Remake and Zero also support the Classic controller which feels miles more comfortable to use than the Cube controller. Plus they're 480p. And You've got to get RE4 on the Wii, those pointer controls make a WORLD of a difference dude! ;) They actually make the game a lot easier though, which is why i wished 'Proffesional mode' was there from the start. :p

And while we're at it, how would you guys rate the Franchise? B-)

Resident Evil - 10
RE2 - 9
RE3: Nemesis - 9.5
Code Veronica - 5
Remake - 8.5
Zero - 7.5
RE4 - 8.5
RE5 - 8
Revelations - 8

You might as well just get the HD version. You get HD and it cost less. :p Besides I wouldn't drop $45(Cube version) for thee' weakest(Along side Zero) traditional RE game in the series. If CV had pre-rendered backdrops instead of those basic 3D environments and did more with the franchise instead of feeling like a step down in comparison to RE3: Nemesis i'd think differently. Plus, throw in the absurd 'too out there' plot, the loss of the classic B-movie horror feel, which was replaced with a more action hollywood oriented vibe where it even relied on Matrix ripping Slomo action sequences, the wooden stiff animations were akward, it re-used zombie SFX from RE2, AND steve's awful voice acting which is thee' all time low for main series.lol

At least the Banderstatchers were cool. lol

@MadAussieBorrito

You've gotta play RE6 regardless of the complete COD sellout-suckage. :p I'm dieing to play it, but part of that is because i want to find out what happens with the characters hehe. ZombiU looks pretty awesome, i actually got 2 copies of it for christmas.lol Need to return the other and put the $67 towards a 3DS XL.. Sure, pointer controls aren't part of the package which was a huge bone headed movie by those goober heads at ubisoft. But the gamepad's screen elements and the fact that it's a first person survival horror(ish) experience instead of another mindless shooter makes it all the more unique, and all the more special since the survival genre horror genre lead by Resident Evil has practically gone down the Goomba toilet. RE: Revelations brought some of that traditional RE magic back(Queen DIDO's dining hall area was amazing!), but even then capcom had to ruin most of it
with those uninteresting mindless shoot out episodes which just felt like lazy filler to also please the Action-heavy crowd.

As for RE3: Nemesis, i really dug how you got to vist the RE2 police station, plus the game had FAT zombies.Must of been from Racoon City's local Crispy Chream. lol. Here's hoping the rumored RE: Down Fall starring Claire Redfield which takes place between RE5 & RE6
turns out better than RE6. And wouldn't it be crazy if Capcom summoned the balls to add in kid zombies? But i guess it's understandable why they haven't. Shooting 'zombie' children, even though they are monsters wouldn't flow too well with the non-gamer public.

awsome series one of my favs in the gaming world, i played them all as well as owning except the original ps1 and those arcade games perhaps if i find them in some retro store i'll pick it up lol

now i just got to wait probably 5 more years before re7 *which id call re9 because i include zero and veronica in the lineup :P * which will slightly kill me till it eventually comes as well as the rumours of an HD Revelation and the goty re6 version having claire scenario plus a sequal to RE ORC that has nothing to do with the main storyline but i enjoy it none the less

ps. RE2 remake NOOOOOOAAAAWWW

Only game in the series I haven't yet is Zero and Code Veronica, REmake is so superior to RE1 that it effectively replaces it. I actually like Zero and overlook it's faults.
