Good job, I still stand by the fact starting on the original is the best way to see if you can get into the series. It's smaller than the rest, the only downer is the lack of a map everyone has been coddled with since the SNES title, but if you get beyond that and just remember areas or write it down, it has all the magic of the later titles, just a few less items that got setup with the SNES game (run, grapple, bigger bombs and missiles.)
Zero Mission is a better suggestion, if you can get a copy. It's the original with upgraded graphics and a map feature. Plus it's got this whole extended part at the end that's just awesome, but not particularly like the rest of the series
The only thing even remotely similar between Zero Mission and the original Metroid is that they have the same "plot".
Welcome! Welcome to never-ending verbal battles about which is the best or the worst entry in the series and how every new entry in the series forsakes everything that makes a true Metroid game and consequently kills the series. Have fun!

You're confusing the Legend of Zelda peasants with us.
Us Metroid fans are actually quite sophisticated. :gentleman:

Hey everyone, I just wanted everyone to know that I picked up a copy of Classic NES Series: Metroid for GBA and I like it. Sure everyone says it hasn't aged well, but I'm enjoying it. I will be picking up Prime in a few days and am exited for Metroid II on 3DS VC and Metroid Fusion as part of the Ambassador Program.
On a side note, I used a code to get to Mother Brain and she is hard!
Glad to hear you have discovered the original Metroid. I am fan of it. Most people can't quite hack it so keep at it. It does have some flaws though I will admit. A tip for Mother Brain is to take out all those things you have to shoot with the missles first and then go out and fill your missles and energy back up by taking out a few Metroids. Makes it super easy taht way instead of taking the Mother on!
To blessed to be stressed.
80's music makes me feel fabulous.
What Would Duane Do? Rynoggery
lol Oh Mao(Sounds like Mayo)....For now on I'm calling you Miracle Whip. Anyhoo! So dudes and dudettes, how does Fusion rank in the franchise? I've got fond memories of always seeing the commercial on TV, and how it's supposed to represent Samus's Darkside, or her Nemesis for better words...er?
Remember this? I sure do
The next Metroid I'm getting into will definitly be Super Metroid. Then I'll most likely hit up Zero mission, Metroid II and then Fusion as far as the side scrollers go. Knowing me, I'll most likely save Metroid: Other M and then 2: Echoes for last. While I'm not too sure I'll ever be going back to the original. I'd rather keep those fuzzy nostalgiac frustrating times in memory.lol
Fusion is like my least favorite so far that I have played. Working on Other M and soon Metroid Prime 1 & 2. Oh, and hurry up and get on Super Metroid man like a Ninja Turtle is on pizza!
Dude, I haven't gamed in over a week. lol The crazy whacked out summer heat makes my place turn into a sona and it makes for some irritating and unbearable gaming sessions and movie watching.lol I need to get a Portable Air Conditioner, which may run me around $400. Bummer! But i need it.
anyways, so what makes Fusion the weakest of the bunch? And you know, i feel like i should really play and beat the original Metroid for the Nes first, but part of me is just saying screw it, I'm starting with Super Metroid and then playing Metroid Zero Mission instead. Having No Map in the original metroid seems like one grueling task with brain sizzling memorazation.
Well, I figured Waveboy Ryan lived near some waves where you have the awesome ocean like the Pacific keeping weather temps moderate and gameable year round like this Ryan I can think of better ways to spend $400... so ok you get a pass but man when temp's drop you better be exploring Zebes 16 bit style.
Original NES Metroid is great, you can handle it. The part I dislike the most is starting over after you die with only 30 HP, especially like in Kraid's Lair where 30 HP can get used up in seconds. But don't let the no map scare you off like it does the kids, you will realize you don't really need it after you have explored for just a little while. Hey, if you start with Super Metroid though I would not blame you, that game is just too dang good. Why I think Fusion is the weakest is because I dunno, I like exploring worlds and not a spaceship that have world-like environments and a computer telling you what and where to go. The music didn't really grab me like other Metroid titles either though some say people like some of the tunes.
Is Other M good? I can't decide between it and Prime. I want to play it because the 2D/3D hybrid gameplay sounds fun. However, I have known about the bug because it uses a double layer disc, and I've had my Wii since '06, so do you think it would read it?

Other M is brilliant but its duel-layered-ness broke my Wii and I had to get it repaired. Plus Prime is one of the all-time greats

Well I have so many VC games downloaded and no SD card I don't know if I want to risk that. I might just try original Prime or Super Metroid instead.

I might just get Super Metroid and Chrono Trigger on VC. I've never played Chrono Trigger before, and there's no better way to celebrate the SNES anniversary with two classics.

Yeah, the Wii controls are the best I've ever seen. Don't think I can ever go back to normal controls again. Don't get why everyone says Wii is casual, with stuff like this I don't know how you could say that.

I got Metroid Prime 3 today! And while I hated Hunters, I'm absolutely loving this game!
It is a fantastic game, one of the Wii's best. You should get the Metroid Prime Trilogy so you get 1 & 2 with the super sweet Wii controls!
It's pretty hard to find the trilogy. it was a collectors edition for metroid. If you're lucky, you'll find a reasonably priced one at eBay.
I was lucky to have it upon release. After playing through Prime 2: echoes with wii controls, i went to gamestop and gave 'em my copy of my GCN one, and bought a wireless nunchuck.
