Topic: How long is Earthbound Ø / Mother 1?

I'm not too far into it right now, I just gave some bird her chick at a cemetery and the mayor asked me to do something. How many hours is it? I want to play the whole Mother Series in order. I tried EarthBound before, but got bored and didn't really give it a chance. I want to give it another one.

Like all official cartridges, the prototype Earthbound cartridge was about 5.5 inches long, 4.1 inches wide. If you mean Mother 1, Famicom cartridges were about 5.3 inches wide, 3 inches tall (I think Famicoms are top-loading).

Edit: Oh, how many hours? Well, it depends on how good you are. Not sure how anyone could say definitively. If you're save-stating it, that greatly affects the time, too. If you use a guide and take some caffeine pills, you can probably do it in one day. Someone who has already beaten it certainly could.

I would never recommend someone start the series from the beginning, by the way. The original is fun for fans, but it's much more obviously dated than the sequel. None of the games' stories are directly and tangibly connected, so there's no need to start from the beginning, either.

"Mother 3" (GBA), according to some, is not nearly as good as "Earthbound" (SNES)... but it's the latest game in the series from Shigesato Itoi, the original creator of all things Earthbound/Mother.

...and that makes it almost like having tasted regular fried chicken skin on an airplane for the first time, back in the '90s. Loving it. Then crashing on a deserted island, in the middle of nowhere, to live on crayfish & coconuts for nearly 20 years..

And then one day being rescued & brought back to civilization, then introduced to KFC's original recipe fried chicken; which by all accounts, may not have the goodness of home-fried chicken; but damn does that skin taste good!

I have no idea what that analogy is supposed to mean, or what this has to do with a long dead thread about Mother 1.

Mother 3 is better than Earthbound, for the record. It has been factually proven.

I agree. And I'm glad you and I are a part of the "other some" of the world who feel Mother 3 is better.

KFC chicken skin is awesome...

I am so glad this thread was brought back to life since I did not get a chance to comment on it back in 2010. I, for one, have never played an Earthbound game.

Some things about Mother 3 are better than EarthBound, and some things about EarthBound are better than Mother 3. IMO, it's too close to call.

I personally liked mother 3 better. The story was more emotional and heartbreaking.
When a game's story tugs at your heart that way I usually like it more as I feel a real connection with the characters.

I prefer the characters and setting in EarthBound more, but MOTHER 3 has the better story and gameplay.
It's too bad the EarthBound NES prototype was so poorly translated... and a shame about the need to levelgrind like a madman to not get destroyed. Never have been able to grind enough to not make everything beyond youngtown NOT a nightmare.

I don't always give myself signatures, but when I do, you just read it.

it took me a long time to beat it, all that grinding...but to me it was worth it, i still think about the experience to this day.

And yes, he is (usually) always right, and he is (almost) the sexiest gamer out there (not counting me) ;)
