Topic: How do you perform the Mew glitch in Pokemon Blue?

I have recently been replaying Pokemon Blue. It's been quite a while since I've played the originals. Could someone tell me how to perform the Mew glitch? What part of the game do you need to be in for the best results? How hard is Mew to catch once you've encountered it? Also, I heard if you catch Mew while it is using Transform, the game will regard it as a Ditto. Is this true? Thanks in advance!

I'm probably the wrong guy to ask since I haven't done it my myself but I think you need an HM move called "FLY" for the glitch to work. Basically you need to pause the game before some trainer battle you and that's is how "FLY" come in. I watch my friend did it and came back to find Mew. But my memory is failing me right now but you can do it without Gameshark or Action Replay. That is what I can tell you.

Maybe this video might help.

Umm… Care to have some gravy?

It involves activating a battle with a trainer in the route before Bill's house (the one with a slowpoke, I think) and using fly right after.

Flying to the nearest town and then getting into a fight with some trainer, after that, flying to Lavender Town and going through the left exit.

My mind is rusty though. Some details may be wrong.

Essentially:
Step 1: you need to get into a situation where taking one step forward will scroll a rival trainer on screen and make them challenge you.
Step 2: as you begin to take that step, hammer on the Start Button to make the menu appear as soon as the screen stops scrolling
Step 3: Use Fly/Teleport/Dig/whatever to immediately leave the map

The Slowpoke is mentioned because, before the next step, you need to have last fought a Pokemon with a certain stat in order to manipulate a random variable in the next map

Step 4: As soon as you re-enter the map with the exploited trainer, you will be forced into a wild encounter with a random Pokemon.
(for more fun, I'd suggest the route after the door below Cerulean (I think, where Misty is). You go through a door then get immediately warp back through the door and then the Pokemon attacks )

I used to do this in the first cave with a escape rope and one of the rocket grunts to get lapras or gengar very early in the game.
