thanks thats all i know about it still as far as i know i have not come across anyone else with a similar cartridge to tell me what it is exactly . People keep telling me to accurately identify it i will need to dump the ROM and check the checksum and rom size to see if it is any different to the retail version. as you can see it has the exact same case style as Robopon but a different circuit board that is everything i know i am affraid i am not a expert on these things all i knew was when i brought that i knew it was not a ordinary gameboy game due to the shape

It could be the fact that Pokemon Gold is a very powerful title. And in order to make such a powerful title, they needed a different circuit board in order to make their game more powerful. (Similar Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Monster Hunter Tri, and Metroid Other M's double layered disc.) And Nintendo was happy to help. This is my guess and TBH I'm not too confident about it.

Possible but why they shrink the circuit board for the retail one ?
So did you just solve your own problem then? :3

thanks and not really i know its Pokemon Gold and that its not a normal cartridge and the origins of this cart are currently unknown i have zero idea where it came from =P i was lucky to find it out in the wild in Sydney Australia =)
Are you sure its a dev thing and not a piratey fake cart thing? either way I've never seen carts like those.
hi it is far too official to be a fake it has Nintendo in Gold letters over it and official circuit chips pirates could not fake this i did not know it looked like Robopon till a few months later this cart has been in my possession for almost 9 months

I've never seen an official GBC dev cart like that before.
I find it incredibly suspicious that the GB logo does not say "Nintendo" on it, but I can't find any different images of a Robopon cart and I've never owned the game so I don't know if it's legit or not. I have heard Robopon had a unique alarm clock feature so maybe that warranted a battery door.
But I don't see why Pokemon Gold should have that special cart when the retail cart was definitely normal shaped. The only reason I can think of is if it was a Robopon dev cart originally and someone overwrote it with Pokemon.
I'm also susprised it doesn't say "Color" on it, either. According to the Japanese box, it says Robopon should be compatible with both the original Game Boy and GBC (and the US box is missing the "ONLY FOR GAMEBOY COLOR" icon in the corner of GBC-only games). But I have to wonder if this game would fit in an original model Game Boy like it should. I'd expect a little hole in the right side of the cart.
Here's the first image I found on Google Images of an official cart. Note that upper-right corner. How it's not square? If you don't know, that was a cart-lock feature on the original full-size GB. The power switch was on top and the switch would slide over to block the cart from being removed while the power was turned on. GBC-only carts (the clear ones) will block that switch to prevent the power from being turned on. http://devkits.handheldmuseum.com/GB-32MFlashCart.jpg
(So the question is... does the actual Robopon work on a GB Pocket or Super Game Boy, let alone the original?)
It explains the Robopon cartridge, but of course not the Pokemon Gold one, which as far as I can tell must be a fake.
Where did you get the Pokemon gold Cartridge?
