Topic: HD old systems?

Is there anyway I can "upgrade" my systems(most likely modding) my old NES SNES and N64 to play in a clearer format? Everything works and stuff but it could look better I think... any ideas?

Edit: I'm asking because I'm trying to get the most out of my old systems. Has anyone else gotten a broken shoulder button on their wavebirds? Need repair help.

Sorry no.

Anyway to make it look better on a HD tv without modding or anything?

The best thing I can advise is download your games onto your Wii and get the 720p cables.

I dont think there are any 720p cables for the Wii.

Alright. I have the component cables for my Wii... but I don't want to rebuy all of my old games on VC.

Basically, I meant that you should buy the resolution-enhancing cables.

Cables don't enhance resolution. You're going to want some kind of up-converter and you're going to have to look into how much lag the specific converter creates, if there is too much, some fast-paced games would be pretty much unplayable.

Damn guys. I already have timing problems on my upstairs tv(not in my room tv)... that upconverter sounds cool, but I don't think I have enough computer and technology knowledge to do that or even make it right for old consoles. I'm surprised someone hasn't already done this, and if they have this thread doesn't know about it. I bet it's possible to moddifyan up-conversion box specifically for old systems that would work. It's just an idea, but if we can get someone to mod an upconverter for this purpose and make an instruction guide I'm sure alot of people would do it, but I'm guessing this upconverter box is pretty expensive. IDK, I'll try and find more info.

Just plug your old systems in and enjoy the magical retro giant pixel-y goodness. That's what I do. You could use upscalers, but they have been known to cause lag which, given that many retro games rely on precision and timing, may make them not particularly useful.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

IMO, the older systems (NES, SNES, Genesis, N64) look much better in their lower resolutions that they were designed for.
Just plug it in an older CRT TV. That's the best way to play the older consoles anyways.

Ya thats what I usually do but I have alot of timme so if there's a sure way of doing this I wouldn't mind doing it... there's one for Wii called Onkyo 605 or something like that but it's very expensive.

I agree with you in some cases. Like my brother bought Paper Mario on VC and then I bought the original for N64 and the Wii verion didn't look as good because the pixels were more defined which wasn't the original artstyle, making it look not as good as the original format or un-upconverted to a clearer resolution.

I have my SNES and N64 hooked up via S-Video cables to my Sony KV-32HS510. This gives the absolute best picture possible for these systems. I have my Wii hooked up with component cables and am still waiting to pick up some component cables for my Gamecube (they are rather pricey).
These are the best ways to hook up these systems. The best picture you can get on an NES, would be by using A/V cables.

Unfortunately the old systems aren't built for HD, so no it is not possible

Why not just play the GC games on the Wii?

Now, I"m no pro at this, but I have did a bit of research on this regarding the Neo Geo. There are some people that have hard modded one of those systems to output component video which is HD. Now, I don't know if this is because it is easier to do with arcade parts or something because their units are built closer to arcade standard which I'm not 100% sure of either, but I think there needs to be a large enough interest by the community to do that already. So, I don't know if its impossible, just hightly improbable. So, as stated above, most likely post processing will be the way to go.
