Metroid Other M, I had every other game in the series and figured I may as well pick it up very cheap for free as part of a buy 2 get 1 free preowned deal at GAME despite knowing from many people that even Sonic 06 is better than it.
Putting aside things that were included in bundles and collections, I've certainly bought a few games I hadn't enjoyed previously in the hope that time would have changed my opinion (Zelda II, Final Fantasy VIII) and games that received a mixed reception that I remained interested in (Suikoden IV, Fragile Dreams).
Can't really say I've ever bought a game just to say I have it though. I always buy a game with the intention of playing it.
I'll end up buying Dedede's Drum Dash just to have all of the available Kirby games on 3DS even though I do not at all care for rhythm games. That's just personal taste, though. I'm sure the game is fine if that's what you are in to.
Bought Mirror Of Fate to go along with the DS Castlevania trilogy and it was the biggest waste of $20 in history. I played until the end of Simon's segment and then had to turn it off before I got sick.

With real money, no, but I did get Urban Champion 3D Classic with CN coins. I did have a little fun with the game, but yeah, it grows old in a matter of minutes and is the most garbage game of the 3D Classics by a long shot.
They had Sonic Unleashed at a flea market for €2 in perfect condition. Granted, I bought it more out of curiousity and for the low price, but whatever. I have bid on really bad Wii games before, like Action Girlz Racing and Ninjabread Man, but as of now I haven't won any of them.
