Topic: Have you purchased a game you know to be bad just to complete a collection?

"Bad" in this case also means something that other people may enjoy but you personally don't.

I've downloaded Donkey Kong Jr. Math just to have all the NES Mario games on Wii U for my folder - I downloaded it on Wii using points gained from Stars then only had to pay the transfer fee to Wii U. I also downloaded Castlevania II, Street Fighter 2010 and Street Fighter II World Warriors just to complete their respective series' folders. Street Fighter II is in no way a bad game, but I do find it unnecessary after downloading Super and Turbo.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Yeah I also have Castlevania 2 for my NES collection.

But it's not that awful, I enjoy the music.

No. Most people don't have money to throw away on games that they know are bad even before they purchase them.

My game library ranges from Mario Kart to Call of Duty to Tales of Xillia to Diablo 3 to Forza. To me gaming is about having fun - not blindly supporting only one company while thumbing your nose at "the evil other systems."

I'd get it if it was an physical collection, I would never do that digitally. I have bought games in a series that were given negative reviews, but they can always turn out good in my opinion.

Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge.
Not counting the alt version of the same number I got and played all the Mega Man Battle Network games released in NA and I still have most of the action figures including the PET made from Mattel.
Anyways I knew it play way different than the other EXE games but not to the point it was so luck based and it plays itself for the most part. Still beat it though.

I have in the past. I loved Tekken 1, 2, 3 but didn't like 4, 5, or 6 but bought them anyway so I could have a complete collection. They sat around my place till I moved and it didn't make much sense to hang on to them when I could trade them in for games I would enjoy and someone who did enjoy them can buy them at a used price.

I know they're not games, but I got X-Men 3 and X-Men Origins: Wolverine to get a complete collection.

I downloaded 3D Classics: Urban Champion just to complete the NES set of 3D Classics games.

also, (ahem), Other M...... to complete my Metroid collection

This is why I want to buy Donkey Kong 64

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

The only game franchise I'm close to completing is Metroid, and while I've had my share of disappointments, there hasn't be an entry I've felt is "bad" in comparison to the videogames I own in general. Metroid Prime Pinball is the one Metroid game I don't own, and I plan to correct that soon and expect to enjoy the experience maybe even more than I've been able to enjoy Metroid Prime.

If I didn't know any better I'd think you were saying Metroid Other M was bad. There's just no way anyone could find fault with that gem of a title. You always got the best jokes, zerkie

The closest I've come to this is I think about buying the Yoshi games I've never had a chance to try (the only ones I own are New Island and the NES one on 3DS VC), but they pretty much all have bad reviews so then I don't.

Oh, and I joke to my BFF (who is a huge Zelda fan and likes to debate "the timeline") that I'm going to "complete the Mario Golf timeline" even though I literally just have the one on the 3DS. That meant I bought Golf on the 3DS VC, which I think is supposed to be bad. (I actually ended up really liking it though, so I don't know if that counts).

Nope. Not even for Megaman, one of my favorite game series. I bought all the ones available on the eShop except the bad Game Boy entries.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

Take a look at the thread on here titled "Your latest retro purchase"

https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/retro/your_latest_retro_pu...

Most of the games that people are talking about buying are absolute garbage they likely won't even spend 10 minutes playing, but are picked up for the sole reason that "it was $2 at Goodwill" or "$10 for a shoebox full of Atari games? Can't say no to that!".

I think collectors buy LOTS of games that are crappy or that they won't even play, just to say they own them. It's bizarre.

I've bought a couple to see if I could still gleam some enjoyment from them. But no, despite my large collection, I only buy games I fully intend to play someday.

I really need to come up with some new material....

For the longest time, I had to download the latest 3DS demo because I wanted to have them all. I was up to about 45 demos when I had to start deleting them due to my 8GB SD card filling up. I've since upgraded to a New 3DS XL and a 32 GB card so I could technically start filling it back up, ......but I've lost interest in collecting the demos now.....

I have bought loads of VC games for the sake of it (Due to a tiny discount) and Steam games.

The only physical old games I have (And bought recently) are the best versions of games I really like. (Metal Slug X MVS / Saturn Megaman X4 (No Saturn yet even but it was below the import duty threshold) / A few Japanese Super Famicom games.)

Oh, I did get Tekken 4 because it was $5 complete and it was the only Tekken game I was missing at the time besides the GBA game. But that was kinda the game that made me realize I shouldn't be obsessing over "finishing a set", and I regretted my decision about as soon as I popped it into my PS2...
