So, there's pretty much a consensus on Lost Levels being the hardest Mario game, but other than that, what do you think? The only one I've ever been able to beat is NSMB DS, so...discuss amongst yourselves.

I thought Lost Levels was the hardest. If were talking spin-offs: Yoshi's Island DS, WarioLand: The Shake Dimension and the Mario vs DK games were damn hard. All the others were pretty beatable imo.

I should really play Lost Levels again. I haven't played it really since All Stars Came out. Usually I just play Super Mario Bros 2 & 3 over and over again.
Don't forget the Super Mario Land games. The original Super Mario Land was hard because Mario was about the size of a flake of dandruff and it was really hard to see him on that old puke green gameboy screen =p
I've beaten NSMB DS, NSMB.Wii, Galaxy, and Galaxy 2
I got close to beating SMB (made it to 8-4, in SMB Deluxe, but shook the system in delight, the batteries came disconnected, and I lost my save) and Sunshine (couldn't get past the boat area before the final fight).
I cowered away from Super Mario 64 (first 64 game 64 bowser gives me chills to this day).
As for the other NES/SNES/GB Mario games, I haven't really put any effort into them/haven't played them (tried SMB2 & SMB3, but didn't even bother to complete first level). However, I hope to play these games in future ?3DS VC?
Lost Levels = hardest, holy crap SMW = easiest considering you can beat it like eight or nine stages in iirc, lives are mad easy to get and you've also got Yoshi and sweet powerups at your beck and call, lol. SMB would take the easiest spot, but lives are harder to get if you warp your way through and the powerups are far more basic.

Obviously Lost Levels is hardest. I'd put NSMB as the easiest. SMB is basic but there are very few lives, power ups, and coins compared to the other games. SMW is fairly easy but I'd put NSMB as being easier.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii is definitely the easiest. no contest. Super Mario Bros. Lost Levels is the hardest, as most people have said. also no contest.

Definitely Lost Levels is the hardest. I recall beating it once though, but its really tough. Fun fact: Lost Levels is my grandfathers favorite Mario game, just because its hard. He has finished it god knows how many times. He doesnt have that much of games but damn, he's good at Mario.
As for easiest, for me its the other Super Mario Bros. 2. Its fun, but the new mechanics make it somehow easy for me.
I may get flack for saying so, but I don't really consider The Lost Levels a real game so much as just an insanely hard remix of the original SMB. It wins, of course, but if we're talking real games in the canon series, I'd say that the original is the hardest and that Super Mario Bros 2 is the easiest (but still my fave).
The Hardest: SMB: The Lost Levels. OMG is that game freaken hard lol.
Easiest: Super Mario World. Once you have the Top secret Area opened up you can get unlimited lives. And right next to the Top secret area is the first Star World which by going through the Star Road you can use to go straight to Bowsers Castle skipping most of the game.

A comparison of sorts here... hardest of course is SMB2 in Japan. Nothing comes close. Easiest I found was SMB2 in the West, the makeover of Doki Doki Panic. Creamed that in a couple of days.
I think by now it goes without saying LL is the hardest, but the next hardest would be Super Mario Land I suppose. I've played all of the games so much they're all fairly easy. Easiest by far is SMW, but I find it to be my favorite game in the series. Does that make me a wimp?
