I highly recommend picking up Wonder Boy in Monster World. It's a fairly relaxing side-scrolling action-RPG with some of the best tunes you will ever hear on the Sega Genesis.

Some others that come highly recommended are:
Rocket Knight Adventures
Vectorman 1 & 2
Streets of Rage 1, 2, & 3
Ristar
Comix Zone

You should try Cool Spot. Okay, so I only played the SNES port, but it must be similar to the MegaDrive original.

lol. I have fond memories based on playing this one back in the day on the Genesis. Yet I'm pretty sure the SNES version looked and sounded better. And If i were to take my nostalgia shades off, Cool Spot is pretty damn mediocre, sloppy and frusturating

Cool Spot aside, even the best Genesis games pale in comparison when compared to the best SNES games. As much as I liked the Genesis back in the day it's just second rate compared to the SNES for the most part. There are still some great gems on the system, but there's nothing as amazing as Zelda ALTTP, Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Mega Man X, Yoshi's Island, Super Castlevania IV, Star Fox, Super Mario Kart ect ect the list goes on and on.

I'll agree with you that the Super NES had some impressive games, particularly Mega Man X and A Link to the Past, but just because the Genesis' games aren't cut from the same clothe doesn't mean you should turn a blind eye to the games that are great on their own terms. It's always best to appreciate a game for what it is, rather than lament what it is not.

Aladdin is another very good licensed game.

I remember I had that game as a kid. All I remember is that it was really hard and unfair, and from what I've heard...it was.

That's weird. I've found it to be one of the easier 16-bit platformers. On the Easy difficulty, I can beat all the levels but the last one, which I can't say about most 16-bit platformers.

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

...it had difficulty levels? Easy mode actually existed back then?!

Zero Tolerance is an awesome first person shooter for the Genesis. Actually, it might be the only first person shooter, but it's still one of the best Genesis games in my opinion.

I'll be sure to look into it. I'm always up for a good old-school FPS.

Alladin definitly had better graphics on the Genesis. Then again, it went for more of a Disney animation look.
Also how's Sparkster the sequal to Rockey Knight Adventures?

Well you know, perhaps that's because Disney Interactive made those Genesis games using the actual Disney animators, and Capcom bought a deal with Disney to use their properties to make SNES games. An early example of Capcom screwing over Nintendo owners by pushing inferior product. Sure Aladdin was fun on the SNES as were the few others like Lion King, and luckily we got the unique Mickey Mouse Magical Quest game, but the 'cross system' titles were crap compared to what Genesis got, and it got more like the well made Beauty and the Beast. Nintendo owners got hosed hard by Disney in those days.

Crusader of Centy is a Zeldaesque action/adventure game.
There's a Virtua Fighter you can play if you have the 32X add on for the Genesis.
As for your desire for turn-based RPGs and run-&-guns, I never played those on the Genesis. But I do know that there are some Phantasy Star games on the Genesis
Personally, I like these Genesis games:
Sonic 1, 2, 3 & Knuckles
Ecco the Dolphin and it's sequel Tides of Time
ToeJam & Earl and it's sequel Panic on Funkotron
Ristar
Vector Man and Vector Man 2
Altered Beast
Golden Axe 1, 2, & 3
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
Comix Zone
The Shinobi games, Shadow Dancer, Revenge of Shinobi, and Shinobi 3
Super Thunder Blade
Road Rash
Cool Spot
Bunch more great Genesis games really...

G-ddamn it! Crusader of Centy would be perfect but it's too rare. At least it has a Saturn Sequel that's pretty cheap...

I also remember playing this one game called Boogerman on the MegaDrive. It's a little weird, and I remember it used an excessive amount of the green color.

To each their own

Platform shooter E-Swat from SEGA for the Megadrive was a very nice game, even better than the arcade original in my opinion. Also Alien Storm is a over-the-top but fun run n gun game. I don't know if you like sidescrolling shooters like Gradius or R-Type, if you do, i highly recommend Thunderforce IV, that game blew my mind and ears (even tough i was anti-sega back in the days).

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Gunstar Heroes for a run-'n-gun game.

Taz in Escape from Mars is an interesting licensed game. It's a platformer where you control the unique powers of Looney Tunes's Taz the Tazmanian Devil. If you like beat-'em-ups, TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist is another good licesnsed game. There's also a TMNT fighting game called TMNT: Tournament Fighters.

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?

That's because I specifically stated that I didn't want people to recommend Gunstar Heroes(Because I already have it). What is surprising is that it's the only thing in my first post besides licensed games that anyone paid even the least bit of attention to.

I'll also be sure to look into Escape from Mars and Hyperstone Heist.

Soldiers of Fortune, M.E.R.C.S and Rolling Thunder 2 are all good run'n gun style games.
I would also recomend Out of this World since it's so simular to Flashback.
And as for fighting games... well I hear the Genesis port of Samurai Showdown wasn't bad.

.... or something like that.
