Topic: GBA TwinBee Famicom Mini Options Translation?

Posts 1 to 10 of 10

I bought a Famicom Mini TwinBee cart to refurb another cartridge I've bought for my Nephew (I gave him an AGS 101 a few years ago and now that he's old enough to carry around with him I'm getting him some more games)...

...It arrived today at the same time as we had a short, local power-cut and long story short I'm now a TwinBee fan.

I'll pick up the 3D classic for myself but my Nephew only has the GBA and I'm wondering if there's a way to make it easier through the options menu...

...if you press both shoulder buttons at the same time it brings up a menu but it's in Japanese.

Does anyone here have an idea of what the options are or somewhere on the web I can find people who might translate them for me?

I know it's a long-shot but I thought it was worth the post.

Assuming it's the same menu as other games:
つづける : Continue
リセット : Reset
ハイスコアをセーブする : Save High Score
スリープモード : Sleep Mode
And then a message telling you to push L+R+Select to quit sleep mode.

I assume it's something similar to this:

Untitled

Outside of the sleep mode, it's a bit useless.

But if it has that high score saving option, it might be nice. I guess.

@Meowpheel Awesome, brilliant, thanks. It's got four options and I guess the extra might be a high-score save function, but it more or less is that screen, just in Japanese.

I was hoping it might have a dip-switch style difficulty setting to make it a little easier.

But yeah, it's pretty basic. I was hoping it would be lots of funky stuff but no such luck I guess.

@KingMike That's exactly it. Thanks so much. Do you have any idea how to re-set the cartridge so there's no high score save?

Looking up on Google about resetting high scores on other Classic NES Series games: hold L+R while turning the system on.
That should give an "erase save data" prompt.

In looking that up, I didn't know that the FDS games in the Famicom Mini (volume 21-30) have another secret: hold A+B at startup to see the FDS BIOS animation. Although you won't be able to "insert disk", I don't think. Just have to reset afterwards.

I had no idea of those two, thanks for sharing.

Not that I plan to delete my TLoZ's save data though. And it doesn't have the FDS easter egg for obvious reasons, But it's nice to know.

@KingMike Brilliant, thanks so much. I didn't think it'd be searchable, thanks.

Wikipedia reports TwinBee being released in series 2 but doesn't give volume numbers (it shows there having been 3 series). I tried it with my DS Lite but it just booted as normal.

There were basically 2 volumes from the Famicom cartridge library (#1-20) and then 10 games from the Famicom Disk System library (#21-30).
(there were also two other rare promotional-only releases, but I don't think those are counted in the set officially: Super Robot Wars 2 and Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam Hot Scramble)

As I recall, the west basically got 8 of the 10 games in Volume 1 (I think Mappy and Star Soldier were the two omitted games), and then another set of four games (Dr. Mario from Volume 2, and then NES versions of three games ported from the FDS: Zelda II, Metroid and Castlevania).
I'm a bit surprised they left out Kid Icarus (I think it was actually announced at one point) and Lost Levels from the west.

Actually, the Famicom Mini games were made to resemble their original counterparts, including the cartridge color. So the FDS series were yellow carts.

well, the nes classics where also a light shade of gray to resemble nes cartridges.

@KingMike I just took another look at it and Wikipedia lists quite a few that were Japan only releases (too many to list here and many with Japanese Titles) but they have the list here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Classic_NES_Series_games

Balloon Fight was another that wasn't released outside of Japan, which surprises me; I absolutely loved Joust when I was I kid. It was one of my favourite arcade cabinets. I thought everyone loved that premise but I guess there wasn't the interest anywhere but Japan.

That's one I'm importing (it's on its way to me) as a gift for my Nephew (I gave him an AGS-101 a few years ago and he's now old enough to take it places with him, so I'm getting him some games for it).

I bought TwinBee to refurbish the Balloon fight cartridge but now I've sat and played it for a while I'm going to be giving that one to him too.
