Topic: GBA-SP: B-Button Trouble

Yesterday when i tested my new games i noticed my B-Button doesn't work anymore. Looked into it today and actually it seems fine, the button looks fine, so does the rubber thing, between contact and button. I also can't see any issue with the contact either. It's the old 001 version but should be identical to the 101 anyways.

Are there any known issues, or any hints for troubleshooting? What to do now?
And yes, it's not the games, they worked fine on my original GB.

either take it back to Nintendo (I don't think they'll accept it though) ANd if they can't, by a another used one. THey're like $30 at gamestop.

I've never had a problem with any Nintendo handheld prior to the DSi. I've actually got my old worn out GBA SP charging right now for a bout of Mario Pinball tonight.

Found the issue now. The contact is ok, so no soldering (thank the laaaaaaaaawd!) but i think the button itself is to worn out, or there is something wrong with the rubber between the contact and button, but i'm tending towards the button. I tried to put a piece of paper between the contact and the rubber which did nothing, but between the button and the rubber it had the desired effect, so i guess there is some material missing on one of those. Sadly the paper is no permanent fix, the thickness of that thin paper is actually enough to take out all the elasticity and it makes it jam every now and then, i need a replacement button/rubber.

I generally object to the "buying a new one" solution, i'm a big fan of keeping stuff going with spares till it's fubar, besides, 30$ is a big amount of money, i can get 10 games for that. I guess i still will go for a "new" one if my dealer gets a 101. Got myself a GB pocket though, i mistaken it for a light. >.< Huge bummer isn't it? I actually wrote multiple mails to Nintendo over the years, and while most been very nice, they wouldn't even tell me what i have to look for if i want one of the screwdrivers they use on the old cartridges. Nintendo is seriously useless. [Rant] Think about it: GB Light - only available in JP even though it's the perfect classic! There also never was a GBA that's just perfect, while the 101 is close, the sound still sucks and the colors still are bland, and the micro is just tiny. WTF Nintendo - really! Do something properly for once! cry cry

Well i still think you should get a new one. Buying a new Button? WHere are you gonna get that? And did you try calling Nintendo? They'll probably replace your old one with a new one or something. :0

Yes ok i give it a shot. But i can promise you - the best (but very unlikely) case will be being able to buy a new button for the shipping cost; don't let that sound negative - it would be fabulous, but getting a new one is way beyond things that are to be expected. Those are worth good money, and in the end Nintendo is just another business giant, and i'm a notorious warranty voider. We will see though. I send a email tomorrow. Reminds me: Are there still any warranties running on any GBA or did they all end?

Got an answer from Nintendo. Repairing a GBA can be up to 48Eur and i also asked for a new display for my classic, which was quoted at 16Eur, (Got myself a pocket for 15 recently) and don't forget to add about 6Eur for sending it back and forth. (packaging on my side not included) That's about what a new one costs. xD Getting a SP that is fubar'ed for a view euro is probably more cost-efficient, since shipping will only be one way, and i get some extra parts. Ah yes: They can not send parts, i really have to send it there. Wtf. Well, that solves this. I was hoping one of you may be in mainland Europe and have some spares, but ok.
