Topic: Games you have given up on ever beating

Right now I have 3 unfinished Pokémon games: White 2, HeartGold and X. Of those the closest to be beaten would be White 2, as I need a few levels to take on the Elite Four.

And most of my PC games, in particular Half Life 2 and Beyond Good and Evil. I am not a fan of playing on a PC.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

Picross 3D - There are just too many puzzles for me to ever hope I will finish it.

Except strategy games (and maybe few RPGs/h'n's), because you can play that to the end of the world and one day longer, there are only 2 games that I've never beat in my 20 something years of gaming. I've beat a lot of crappy games, but Hyperdimension Neptunia and Cross Edge take the cake - these games are just so boooooooring it's not even funny. And believe me, I am very patient and persistent, but I can't force myself to sit throught and beat it, that's how bad it is. Even thinking about it now makes me depressed.

The 7th Saga - You know, I've been thinking long and hard about this, and you know what? The game is actually easily manageable if you're properly equipped and/or leveled up. The exceptions? The apprentice fights! Those damn apprentice fights; oh, the majority of them are completely optional (as far as I'm aware), but two are mandatory. The first one is not so bad, but the second one is; and that's saying something considering you have to get the rune from one of them before you progress further, and if you lose against any of them they'll take all your runes, and if you level up they level up (becoming more powerful than you already are), and if you're not careful fighting them then you're screwed! It's not a bad RPG, I just don't like the apprentice fights in this one.

How bad the apprentice fight is depends on which you get dealt.
On my second time, I was Olvan (the dwarf) against Valsu (the priest). Valsu OP PLZ NERF.
Pretty much the only way to survive that was luck. Do less than 90 damage (I believe) so he doesn't Heal2. Then a Defend-Critical FTW (if you don't PWNED by his Ice in the meantime).
Oh, and did you know that Valsu gains immortality at level 42 (aka the Elixir spell. For 120 MP, he regains full HP AND MP, including the 120 MP.)
Yes, I beat the game the first time because Valsu was my partner.
So it seems Enix nerfed the player's level-up growth curve in the localization but the enemy apparentices still use the original stat growth.
I'm assuming WanderFan never finished the game, so he'd never know in that day it was a good thing I had Nintendo Power to tell me how to disabled the final boss' immortality.

I always knew I'd never have a full Pokedex in any game.

I never beat Black 2, but I overkilled White. I just disliked Black and White 2. It was disappointing to me. Anyone else feel that way?

Super Mario Sunshine... but hey- my Gamcube broke a long time back and SSB on our Wii's VC took up our time. I also never beat SM64...

Most wanted Smash Bros. Characters as of right now:
1. Chrom
2. Bowser Jr. (Probabbly not going to happen, but it would be cool)
3. Sceptile (Same as above)
All the other characters that I have wanted were announced at E3...

HA YOU SEE THAT I TOTALLY CALLED BOWSER JR!...

I'd have to say Mega Man 2, or at least, I might need to start it over. Turns out I somehow never collected a single E-Tank in the game and so now it's almost impossible for me to beat Wily in the end of the game.

@KingMike - wait, are you saying that the difficulty in the Japanese original version Elnard is worse (or am I misconstruing your meaning)? Also, really? Really? Valsu is the gamebreaker? When he isn't destroying you as a mandatory apprentice adversary, he's a gamebreaker? Level 42 he has got practically unlimited magic with full HP/MP prowess, even when he uses MP? ... Huh! I never played as Valsu (or had him as a partner), I should probably try it someday; funny how the "the meaning of life" 42 is a number that pops up every now and then when it comes to... well, anything. Here's one thing I noticed during the first time I played it: when your character has got a partner alongside you. Say you had just won a battle against a certain group of enemies, and you had won say 800G and earned 1250 Experience Points; the amount of gold you'll get is the same, but the amount of experience points is cut in half (625 for the player and 625 for the partner). How does that work? Wouldn't it make more sense if both characters garnered the same amount? Then again, you are given the choice to select one of seven characters at the start of the game (and the player is the only one that battles apprentices), and the other six unselected ones will try to compete with you (unless one of them joins you), so perhaps that was Produce's aim when making it? Not that I'm complaining about how unfair that is, I'm just trying to understand the logic behind that, since it's rather unbecoming for a turn-based RPG.

It's the worst Mainline Pokemon game by far, IMO.

Hmm Black/White was worse then Black 2/White 2.

Yea I got sick of it after the 2nd Gym. Granted, I have gone back, and finished it recently. Still, that fact I bought it day one, and completed after X/Y says a lot.

No, the player and apprentices should be using be the same growth curves in the Japanese version, so it should be more balanced.
For Valsu, you'd still need to keep at least 120 MP for that to work.

Probably what's happening is the game is displaying the EXP earned before it divides it up between both players.
I'm not certain but I think Breath of Fire 1 also displayed EXP before dividing.

If I remember right, Breath of Fire II did the same thing. (although I think BoF2 gave everyone the same EXP. So if a fight gave you 300 EXP, it would say 900 EXP if 3 people lived and 1200 if 4 people lived)
Several other games also split the EXP among living party members (the FF games and I think EarthBound), but those displayed the EXP amount after it's been divided.

Dillion's Rolling Western or whatever it was called. It really pissed me off.

Black and White actually had focus, a decent story, cohesion, an acceptable amount of Mons until the post game, and remarkably few nonsensical barriers.

Honestly, Black 2 was the lasiest game I ever played with the Nintendo brand on it.

One of many people who have accepted I'll never see Battletoads beyond level 3 except on the Internet.
And while I can see Stage 8 of Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts with the level select, I'll never finish.

@KingMike - Ah, localization: when for poorly specified and not so justified reasons it involves making games in the West inferior or worse than the Japanese original. That is just bullcrap. You know, I think I will settle for Elnard one of these days... I've been itching for another SFC turn-based RPG outside of Final Fantasy V anyway.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll manage to beat Super Ghouls'n Ghosts if you try your hardest; you can do it!

use a game genie for battletoads. as for super ghouls n ghosts, it took me an unexplainable amount of time to beat that game. but i never had problems with ghouls n ghost for genesis. i can plow through super ghouls n ghosts all the way to the end both quests but it was the last boss (second quest) that took me so long to get him.

Seriously, I had probably 65% of the Pokedex in White. But in White 2, I haven't made it past the desert city where Skyla takes you. It seemed to bare an extremely strong resemblance to the original (much too similar for how much the game hyped up the differences) and the story wasn't even as good as the original Black/White. The legendary situation was just nuts, and the new features like the movie place were a lot less fun as they boasted they would be. The whole game felt like DLC to the original, but since they couldn't make DLC that big for the DS, they threw together some features and called it a game. My sister and I thought it was disappointing and it is my personal weakest mainline Pokémon game.

Tales of the Abyss. I think I'm just getting burnt out on anime/JRPGs. Tales of the Abyss is just another JRPG with all the typical JRPG/anime characteristics that I've gotten used to so it bored the crap out of me. Not motivated to go back to it :/
