There's nothing fun about fighting a bunch of cowards who stand around watching their comrads get slaughtered. Honestly, it's insulting how pathetic the AI enemies are - you might as well be cutting the grass! What's so fun about fighting a bunch of weaklings who act like they don't even want to kill you? It's just a waste of time. TBC in Next post

@ GabeGreens I couldn't agree with you more. Every review I read of Other M only proves to frustrate me more. The game is fantastic and like nothing else I've ever played on a Nintendo console. I've filled up 3 files to 100% already and could play it over and over and over again. I just don't understand all the negative hype it got. It feels very much like a Metroid game to me and Samus' more vulnerable characterization only extended an already intriguing and haunting story even further.

When I close my eyes, I see pixilated blood.

In fact, that's what makes it so boring: you spend so long dredging through a sea of grass cuttings that by the time I get to the bosses, I'm already half-asleep. Of course, I always found those enemies to be more annoying than challenging, but maybe it's just because I'm cranky from having been woken up by an enemy that's even remotely difficult.

Seriously, if someone wants "vicerol" action, they're better of with DMC or Ninja Gaiden, or any other action game where the enemies actually try to kill you.

There you're assuming that the common enemies are even meant to be a challenge. They're not. They're there to be slaughtered, rack up a massive kill count, and feel like a one man tank. It's great. It's relaxing, it's entertaining.

The games are not easy, though - each has its own quirk that can actually make it very difficult. Samurai Warriors 3 has allied commanders that can't be killed. You need to run back and forth over the battlefield protecting your buddies, while slowly ticking off objectives. Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce has some massive enemies that, like Monster Hunter Tri, take some serious work to take down.

I find DMC and Ninja Gaiden too stressful to be any fun, precisely because the enemies are all so dangerous.

In short, it's fun to be an ultra-tank and singlehandedly wiping out entire armies. The turnips in Harvest Moon games aren't very dangerous either, but that doesn't mean the Harvest Moon games aren't fun.

Sounds like a funny comparison, but the point is this - individual soldiers were never meant to be any more challenging than a Turnip in Dynasty Warriors. But they're fun to kill - that's why we press the attack button, even though we don't actually need to to win a level.

WRONG FREAKIN' THREAD DUDE. Almost all of those are frequent members of any top games list. If that's underrated, than Broadway might as well be underground. (or more relevent, Call of Duty may as well be niche) Sorry to nitpick, but when I see big names like Spyro The Dragon and MediEvil on an underrated list, I can't help but complain.

I find underrated games are usually underrated for a good reason. For instance; I played Killer 7 for over an hour, it looked and sounded good but it wasn't fun to play and it isn't No More Heroes by a long shot.

Really? That would be one sad list.

I don't know if it was underrated, but I played a game once called P.O.W. (for the NES) and it was pretty fun. I had never really heard of it or heard anyone talk about it before I played it. Seemed a solid action game. Probably was a clone of something else, but still.

I'd be surprised if anyone else here played it (and liked it).

The original purpose of this thread was for underappreciated games, and now it's for underrated games? I'm so confused! D:

@gamesake

different strokes. I know a lot of people who adore killer7 and personally it's one of my top 10 favorite games of all time. I actually enjoyed it a lot more than nmh. I'd say, yeah, it's underrated for a reason, but not because it's not a fantastic game, it's because it doesn't speak to everyone.

@kingbuilder

Dude, I don't know anymore. I changed the name of the thread and it took a life if it's own. I've been feeding it people for the last few weeks.

I thought it was for underrated games not under appreciated ones. Like say Lost Kingdoms 2, it had quite a few fans but it usually got an average score of 6/10 for being so short and having a lame story. But if you're a fan you'll notice Metroid Other M had those same problems and still claimed a 8/10 score or higher at times. I thought asking ourselves "if this seems fair" was what this thread was here for.

Mega Man 4 (1991, NES)
Often viewed by many to be one of the worst ones in the series, I strongly disagree: it's easilly my favorite. The Level Design is fantastic, the music is great, the Charge Shot is a whole new element of its own, it has the best batch of Robot Masters in series history, and the weapons are almost perfect: not one of them sucks.

@gamesake

for me, part of the fun of this thread has been reading peoples varying definitions of what an underrated game is

Mega Man 4 is alright, but it's still my second least favorite in the series. The level design relies too much on cheap jumps, making it sway between being too easy and too hard. The Robot masters are also the worst conceptually, and gameplay wise they're pretty unimaginitive. You could tell that they were running out of ideas. With that said, it's still a very fun game, it just isn't as good as the 3 that came before it because they were actually unique and imaginitive and balanced.
