I think we can officially add Metroid Other M to that list

I agree. I think its funny how harsh people are on Other M's story. I hear a lot of talk about plot holes and yada yada. Really, how can you put Metroid's story under a microscope, when every game involves destroying Mother Brain. It's like trying to put the Mario or Zelda games in chronology. I also hear people criticizing the Deleter plot line for just kind of fizzling out. Agreed. But, really, it's video game, and I don't have high expectations for the story line. Metroid has never been a franchise that prides itself on story, like say Metal Gear Solid; its strengths are exploration based gameplay, atmosphere, score, etc. Story has never been the reason I love Metroid. I was super apprehensive of the story at first. I loved my silent and mysterious protagonist the way she was, and I didn't think it was necessary to flesh out her backstory. By the end of the game, though, I can't say that I minded, because the game was still fun. I didn't really LOVE the "Adam's authorization" means of gaining new abilities, but I can recognize that finding pieces of your suit around a ship/planet you've never been to is dated. It doesn't REALLY make sense, but again, no one ever cared because it didn't HAVE to make sense. It was fun.

and on that note.
SIlent Hill 2 (PS2/XBOX)

SIlent Hill 2 has become somewhat of a cult classic, mostly due to the introduction of Pyramid Head, arguably the most lovable character in all of videogames. For me, SH2 sets the bar for survival horror games. I've been chasing the dragon to try and find a better one ever since my first playthrough.

Every game involves destroying Mother Brain? What about Metroid Prime 1&2, Prime Hunters, Metroid 2 and Metroid Fusion? None of those had Mother Brain.

@Faron
true, true. I was exaggerating to make a point. Same with Zelda and Mario. Every game doesn't involve Ganon or Bowser as the main adversary.

I should've worded it like, most games in the series involve the seemingly impossible resurfacing of past villains. Ripley, the Queen, Phantoon, etc.

Final Fantasy 8 - Mostly just because it gets so much hate from people

I'll second that. FF8 is by far my favorite game in the franchise.

Kirby Air Ride (GCN, 2003)
C'mon, my username is based off my love of this game. A lot of people said "It had little replay value and was fun if you were younger than 6 years old." I strongly dissagree with all the naysayers. The game modes, such as City Trial, had an insane ammount of replay value. It's the kind of game you can play for a 5-minute break or a 5-hour marathon. Add more players, and you have a game that I've owned since 2003 and still playing to this day.
Plus, Dragoon was SO fun to ride on :3

@Dragoon: Kirby Air Ride was fantastic, especially when playing with other people.

I'm back (for the moment)!

@TheLonelyGamer Hooray for HVGN!

Batman Returns (SNES) The game that scared me as a child and still makes me shudder today just thinking about it. Batman Returns is a very difficult arcade-style beat'em'up. The game has thick enough atmosphere that you could cut it with a knife. When you're walking around the streets of Gotham City, you know there's something behind your back trying to get you. An eery soundtrack, great level design, fun gameplay, and tricky boss fights help build this to be one of my favorite beat'em'ups ever! :L (Oh yeah, and the cutscenes are awesome.)

Secret of Mana (SNES) Y'know, I didn't really even like this game at the start. I found it to be a generic RPG with a weak battling system and pretty terrible game-breaking design choices. But then, I realized that this game is a masterpiece. The game doesn't really pick up in pace until quite a few hours into the game, but then you're hooked. Fantastic music, fun fighting system, awesome multiplayer, and some of the best environments of any RPG ever. Definitely go check it out. It may have alot of dedicated fans today, but I think it needs even more!

I think you're in the wrong thread, mac. This is for underrated games.

Ranger-X - Now here's a golden oldie that never got the attention it deserved. It was a late-entry Sega Genesis game, and was a rather unique run n gun involving a giant robot and a motorcycle, which can be controlled indepently. It had some of the best and most well-excecuted graphics on the entire system, and combined with its music, gameplay, and level design made for a very unique and interesting experience.

continuation from last post because the PSP browser sucks: The only problem is that the gameplay is pretty complicated, along with the unconventional controls, can definitely take some getting used to. It's not a game you can play without studying the manual beforehand, trust me on that.

Still, despite that, it was a pretty awesome game, and it's a real shame so few people have played. Unfortunately, it was one of the last games released on the Sega Genesis,

i really love Rayman 3 for the PS2, even though it got some "meh" reviews. it has a very nice blend of action and platforming and it has some crazy powerups and actually challenging bosses. i especially like the cartoony graphics mixed with a comedic story which actually makes you feel like your watching an episode of spongebob or another cartoon

Continuing from last post cuz the PSP Browser still sucks: and by then nobody paid any attention to Genesis games. Very few people played it, and now it's all but forgotten.

Of course, that also means it's dirt cheap, so if anybody's interested, it won't set you back very much. I highly recommend it, especially to run n gun fans looking for something different on the Genny.

55 hours of playtime logged on the Wii (making it #1) + 30-odd percent of trophies on the PlayStation (making it one of my most trophied games). Meanwhile Monster Hunter Tri has around 15 hours. THAT'S a boring game. Samurai Warriors 3 is not.

Not sure why people keep saying these games are boring. It's visceral action + these are real, historical stories (albiet with some embellishments). I actually LEARNED about two of the most interesting periods of asian history thanks to these games.

Ive been playing Metroid Other M and I can say in my opinion its underrated. I guess the brand is what brings it down though. Most complaints are against it not being what they would expect from Metroid and how Samus is not potrayed like they think she should and use the fact that Team Ninja had involvement as an excuse. That is even though it was the one who created Samus who portrayed her like that and its a good story nonetheless. But the name Metroid and Samus are what doomed the game critically.
