R-Type 1, although R-Type Leo and R-Type Final are good, too. I never liked Super R-Type that much. I may end up getting R-Type Delta if there's no indication that Vagrant Story will come out before April.
The first one is just so classic... I get the music from the first stage stuck in my head all the time. After playing it on the VC for hours my brain is hard wired to passing the first two stages without a scratch. Sadly, i've only passed stage 3 twice, that 3 credit limit is brutal.

R-type 2! I love the underwater level. Anyways, it's also one of the first sequels that I'm aware of that's shorter than the first.

So far I've only played Final, so I'll go with that. It was pretty good until I got to the boss in the second level that I couldn't defeat, then I stopped playing it. I feel really stupid for having sold it...
Been thinking of picking up R-Type DX for the GBC, as well.
I like the first one most. It is just so classic and already started a lot. My favorite versoin would be the one on the C64 for the overall well quality and best music of all existing versions.
