As I was paging down through new posts, I could have sworn this thread was entitled "Favorite Pokemon Religion." I'm disappointed that there isn't actually a thread by that name here, so I'll post my answer anyway: The Cult of Pikathulhu.

Xenu bless the internet, there were actually image results for "pikathulhu."

1. Johto: This one had pagodas waterfall caves, whirlpools, berry trees and many more things that have become staples of the series. But the best thing about Johto is that it had the coolest Pokémon with such classics as Typhlosion, Tyranitar and Umbreon and Espeon.
2. Hoenn: While you couldn't return to the older regions, Hoenn was a lot larger to make up for that. This region was full of secrets and places that begged to be explored and investigated such as the Mt. Chimney volcano Abandoned Ship and the vast oceans with undersea trenches that you could reach with the new Dive HM. Those underwater areas were full of treasure and sea floor Pokémon. They also held caves that led to legendary Pokémon. In Emerald there was also the Battle Frontier which was an extreme challenge even for veterans. In this region you've actually got a father... who's a painstakingly tough Normal-type Gym Leader as well.
3. Kanto: The region where it all started. the dungeons in this region, particularly in Red/Blue/Yellow, were much more complicated than in Pokémon games of today and the Pokémon League was also pretty tough. The fights against the three Winged Mirages and the mighty Mewtwo are classic. And no, there's no Mew under that truck in Vermillion City harbour!
4. Sinnoh: This is where it was getting slightly stale to me. That's not to say Sinnoh wasn't interesting. At Mt. Coronet I really felt I was traveling through the mountains for the very first time in the series with all the snow and the simple yet effective 3D effects. Mt. Coronet was one of the largest and most impressive dungeons in the series and needed to be visited multiple times. The ski resort up north was kind of interesting to explore despite being so hard to navigate. And that crisis at the Spear Pillar was pretty darn epic, especially if you had Platinum. I also liked how they replaced the Safari Zone with a swamp in this game.
5. Unova: I was underwhelmed with Black/White and one of the main reasons for this is the fairly small size and linearity of the Unova region. I also think they could've done more with the interesting effects the seasons have. The only area that really is drastically affected by it is Iccirrus City and its surrounding areas. They could have done something like that for other seasons as well. I was happy to hear they brought back the Dive HM, but it turned out to be used in only one dungeon and nothing more. I would have liked cathching Pokémon in the seaweed like in Hoenn. Thankfully, Unova has its innovations as well. First of all there is an exclusive town for each version and a town that is old in White and modern in Black. I also like how they took a more western approach to the visual style of this place. Unova seems to be inspired by USA/Canada rather than Japan. Castelia City looks like a North American metropolis and there is a cowboy Gym Leader. And the bridges are cool, although some more trainers on them would've been nice. Some bridges resemble famous American bridges such a Brooklyn Bridge and Golden Gate Bridge.

I am curious what they will come up with next time. A European-style region? That would be cool. You could make each town look like a town from a different country because of the great variety in architecture in Europe. Or what about an Australia-style region with lots of deserts and mountains?

Everyone just LOVES Johto but I find it a little bit boring...

Just throwing something in: We need Hoenn remakes for the 3DS. Just picture how amazing that would look! I know a lot of people didn't like RS but I think they could fix a lot of problems with a remake. I just can't wait for an official announcement. It's pretty much inevitable. I predict 2012 for Japan and 2013 for US. Of course I could be wrong but I would be terribly upset if these games do not get remakes.

I love Kanto the most of all. I think it's a combination of the show and the first game both being my first huge gaming experience. The gyms were fantastic, the legendaries were great and at the time it was very overwhelming. Johto is also good, but I think I look at this fondly because of how fantastic an expansion it is and then allows you to go back to Kanto. Areas like lake of rage make it a really cool place. I still can remember the wonder and excitement when I completed the Johto and moved to Kanto region. It was totally unexpected!

After that it probably goes Sinnoh, Unova, Hoenn.

2. Unova - Easiest to navigate
3. Johto - Cool mix of old and new
4. Sinnoh - Forgetable in every way, but not exactly terrible
5. Kanto - This place is a freakin' maze.
