Final Fantasy IX easily. I love the old school games, and the PSX trilogy, so a combo of the two - with all the charm, beauty and style of Square at the peak, is EXACTLY what I would love.

But FF6 is something I've wanted to play for awhile. Waiting for a re-release...I mean, it's Square. It's coming for a current platform. A PSN re-release of FF Chronicles, or a 3DS 3D remake from Matrix; they'll do something along that line. I don't feel like hunting down a copy of the GBA version of FF3/Final Fantasy 6.

But I much prefer the older, more charming, less linear, more fantastic FF games from the SNES and PSX. I don't mind the PS2 games at all - I quite liked what i played of FF12. But the current, Tetsuya Nomura-led crop of garbage Square is putting out is something I absolutely cannot stand. I know bad anime when I see it, and bad anime storytelling filled with melodrama (like in Inuyasha, Dragonball Z and Bleach). So I sure as heck can see bad anime RIPOFF storytelling, and that's all Nomura can do, apparently. Garbled, overly complex, emotionally soulless garbage filled with super cliche character archetypes. Not characters mind you, just, like, templates. The bubbly girl, the sleepy/hungry everyman with the heart of gold and the undefeatable spirit, the borderline emo reluctant hero, etc. It's not like...Vanille, or someone, has anything unique to distinguish her from Rikku in FFX, besides being more annoying. Or Sora from Tidus. It's not like Nomura & co. ever think out these character's particular hopes and dreams, likes and dislikes, or histories and fates. They're just, "plug in the mysterious badass" here. Ugh. The plots are structured much the same way as FF7 too (an admittedly great game), whenever Nomura is in charge, thus devaluing that game a bit more and more as time goes on.

That guy is a clown. Sakaguchi was generations better. I'm glad Yuji Horii is still at Square-Enix, but he's so busy with Level 5 and Dragon Quest that he can't seem to bother with an executive position at Square to tell all the younger goons how it's done. But I wish SOMEONE would. Mistwalker and Level 5 are the JRPG studios to get behind at the moment imo. Square's a mess. I can't stand the contemporary Final Fantasies. I feel like they'll never make a game as great, charming, or touching as FF6, 7 or 9 ever again.

>>Sorry for rambling I'm passionate about Square complaining and my love for them, from back in the day.

I only really played much of Final Fantasy VII. That was a great quest to play through. The battle at the end with Sephiroth was one of the most epic in any video game.

I've beat 10 (almost did by I lost the Memory but I could have) and 1, 4. I'm REALLY looking forwards to playing 6. It looks like it might be my favorite even though I haven't played it. I liked 4 so far though and After Years is looking better. Going to borrow 3... now I just need to find 2 and 5 and no I don't have a GBA.

I love Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (GBA) but for the main game I'd say FF1 GBA remake (PS1 had same remake of 1&2 if I remember correctly). I never got interested in 7 and 8 but I like some of the characters like Cloud, Sephiroth, etc. I've played also FFX, but can't tell if I like it or not as I don't have it. DS's Chocobo Tales is a good game too

It's its, not it's.

I'm just going to sound like one of those fanboys that nobody likes, but I'm gonna have to say VII is my favorite. Just something about the way the story, characters and soundtrack combined. It was the first game I played that had such an affecting story. VI comes close, though, as does IX. I don't know why, but VIII always bored me.

The first six. After that it's either a stupid battle system (Final Fantasy 13), overly anime story (Final Fantasy X) or just bad graphics. )Final Fantasy ahem VII.) The Playstation just couldn't support those graphics.

In order of the few I own:
1. Final Fantasy IV (4) DS or (2) SNES
2. Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light
3. Final Fantasy lll (DS) Na (NES)
I like Dragon Quest more than Final Fantasy.
