I'm sure this thread existed long time ago, but again I don't have the patience to look for it.
I'd say Final Fantasy VI, cuz I've only ever played Nintendo systems, which brings my choice to decide only between the first six FF games. Anyway, I think its got the most memorable characters in a game I've ever played, and the story itself is on par with or even better than reading a novel. And the music is just... wow. Spectacular. And its got some good bass parts, which is, btw, my favorite instrument.
I also really liked FF I because even though the story is VERY simple, you can make up your own story about the characters. Therefore, the game is every bit as interesting as the player.
So I ask u, in this thread that's every bit as pointless as a circle: what is your favorite Final Fantasy game?
Either IV or IX. They're pretty much the epitome of FF to me. Both have great characters and stories and IX has the best soundtrack of them all.
The FFIV remake is fantastic and much improves the game. I hope FFIX gets a 3DS(or 4DS) remake.

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times: Final Fantasy 5. It has a decent story that doesn't take itself seriously, with likeable characters that do have some amount of depth to them. It's got plenty to do and plenty to explore, and the job system is just plain compelling. It's one of my favorite RPGs period, and certainly my favorite FF. Granted, I like every game in the series for one reason or another.
V is my favorite, though i know the plot is lacking compared to VI. V also had the tie-in anime, i loved it :3 sky-pirate ladies ftw!

I have to say I have never played any of them, I'm not really hating on it just one of those game(s) I never got around to playing for whatever reason.
I actually think the first Final Fantasy is my favorite. I like having the ability to play with different parties. It really adds to the extended playability of the game.

I haven't played enough Final Fantasy. I've only played Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions (PSP) and Final Fantasy VI Advance. I've not finished either game, but the latter is my favorite. I should try some more Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy Mystic Quest looks good.
The on ly ones I've played are 1, 3, 6, 7, 9, and I own the collectors edition of 12 from a trade, but never played it. Despite that, I would have to say that my favorite is 9
FF6: Release year- 1994 Kefka's birthday - November 9th So.... my life is practically mirroring Kefka? Cool.
Of the Nintendo era FF games I have to say mine is FFVI and FFIV a close second. Of the PS FF games I like FFIX just because it brings it back to the style of the originals and I love all the little nods to the earlier games that are put into it. Though I'll have to say I never beat VII-X. And I have yet to play XII or XIII.
4! Er, 2 if you're American! I tried FFX, but I hated how linear and streamlined it seemed to be. It left almost no room for customization or exploration. I decided to stick to old school FF from then on
