So just recently I started to look into the wonderful world of (super) famicom games. I had never known that perhaps the greatest games on those consoles never even made it out of Japan! Offcourse you do have to love the Japanese style, but since that's really my thing, I can't go wrong there.

What I was wondering though, is if some of you guys could give me some hidden gems to explore? And I don't need to know about Live A Live or Seiken Densetsu 3 or something, because those are pretty known to me allready. I'm talking about the hidden of hidden. I would like to be surprised if you could be able to. My favorite genres are platforming, RPG's/Adventures and beat um ups.

I am waiting anxiously...

Ah, that game looks ok I guess. Do not really like the graphical style though.

Yes, I'm allready familiar with that website, it's awesome!

Famicom
Crisis Force
RECCA
Gun-Nac (Likely to be available at a more sensible price).
Best version of Castlevania 3 (The music is so much better and it is censored less).

Super Famicom
Rendering Ranger R2
Popeye: Ijiwaru Majo Seahag no Maki
GunForce
Super Castlevania IV (Bigger rom so less slowdown on the Japanese version - I don't like the game but lots of people do - not censored).

JRPG's (I wish I knew enough Japanese to play them properly).
Far East of Eden Zero
Dragon Quest III remake
Tales of Phantasia

Also the pretty common SNES games are sensibly priced from Japan but a rip off these days in English (And most of the time it is not a problem).

I used to have a few dozen of the games back in the last half of the 90s early 00s for SFC, got into Famicom this year though as I lucked into a honeybee (and now have the retron5.) For the SFC: Twinbee Rainbow Bell Adventure, Zenki, Ranma 1/2(sequel to hard battle fighter), Parodius(1-3) Twinbee and Popn Twinbee, Ganbare Goemon 2(sequel to US mystical ninja) are all good choices as are the Sailor Moon 1v1 fighters and the final fight clones(SM and SMR.)

Famicom: Armadillo, Bio MIrcale Bokutte Upa, Crisis Force, Daiku no Gen San(Hammerin Harry), Joy Mech Fight (1v1 fighter from Nintendo), Kyattou Ninden Teyandee (Samurai Pizza Cats), Mitsume Ga Tooru(3 eyed one), Moon Crystal(very expensive buy a clone), Parodius, Splatterhouse Wanpaku Graffiti, Twinbee 3, Wai Wai World 2, Wing of Madoola(Madura no Tsubasa), and Yume Penguin Monogatari.

I'd strongly suggest looking at that list of famicom games on youtube, they're crazy good. If you have the care just for better difficulty, partner tuning, better by far audio and non-censorship Akamajyou Densetsu (CV3 japan) is a must.

Oddly I have the Ranma 1/2 3 manual but not the game, I'm still thinking about getting a cart sometime. With it came a Final Fantasy VI manual (so now I have a Japanese manual and US cart ). Got most of those FC games but not Upa (Wii VC though), though I oddly only have Hammerin' Harry 2 that I got for only a few bucks (a real one), Goemon 2 is the only SFC game I don't have (excluding that strange Ebisumaru puzzle-thing).

Upa is well over $100 with a real fc cart. I got lucky earlier this year with a really really badly done listing on ebay. This woman put up 'Baby Mario' the fc-clone along with an adapter for a few bucks, and also Dream Mario too, same thing. They ended 3am my time, surprised the next morning to find I got them for $25 shipped between the two, more surprised when I got them to find they were both honeybee adapters. The 2nd one I bought as a favor for another, let him take it at cost for the thing and the shipping twice (to me, to him.) Upa is fantastic, but the price is goes for is awful. Most of my FC stuff is real, just Upa, SMB2j, and Moon Crystal are bootlegs and only MC uses glop top as the others are solid chip games on boards. Goemon2 on the SFC I recommend because it really is a 2D version of that N64 game we got (the first one) in most ways as it even has the giant goemon robot battles in it.

Moon Crystal is really insane as it feels more like an earlier 90s PC game with motion capture tech in play. The level of detail and wise color choice makes it look more advanced than it is, and then the character (you and enemies) aren't your usual 2-4 frames, but like a dozen so all the stuff they so is super fluid. I can't think off hand of another NES/Famicom game that does both (motion sure, karateka and prince of persia) but not both. It's a shame the legit game is like a $130 import, it's one of few high ones that top the $100 mark.

I've got to say that most games I have heard from, so my knowledge of these obscure games is pretty good I guess.

Moon Crystal though, I hadn't heard from before, and I looked up some gameplay on Youtube and it looks great, really smooth!
