Topic: European Developers you like!

The Europeans never get any love so let's spread the love to those unfortunate souls which we never talk about.

I like Codemasters and SUMO Digital for what they contributed to the games industry and who can forget Rare and Eidos for their franchises that still live on today.

Tell us what Dev you like and why!?! (No Ubisoft jokes please)

Team 17 are great with the Worms series too...especially with the XBLA version.

No-one can forget LittleBigPlanet series either...and Lego game fans also know that the games are created in the UK too.

Although Ubisoft aren't great these days, Rayman is very under-rated.

Who's the original team that created Tetris? I forgot the Russian devs who made that awesome game too.

Ubisoft Montpelier puts out generally quality stuff.

I forgot about Ubisoft. They've done some great games here and there, like some of the Prince of Persia games, and of course Ray-Man. Since this is in the Retro section I'm assuming this is more based on Past works, correct? Eidos has also made some great games, though I haven't played many of them personally.

EDIT: Silly me, PoP is Ubi Montreal.

I love the Fable series, so I guess Lionhead would be up there.

Nobody has said Eurocom! What the what?

You'd think the developers of Dead Space: Extraction and Goldeneye Wii would get some respect!

There are many i like.

Examples are Revolution (Broken Sword, Beneath a Steel Sky), the defunct Core Design (Tomb Raider, Thunderhawk), RARE LTD (Too many to mention!), the defunct Delphine (Another World, Flashback), the defunct Ocean Software (also too many to mention!), the defunct Gremlin (Desert Strike, Actua Soccer, Fatal Racing), Psychnosis (WipEout, Lemmings, Formula 1 '96, Tenka), Codemasters (Game Genie (LOL), Colin McRae Rally, Dizzy) the defunct Bullfrog (Syndicate, Magic Carpet, Theme Park), the defunct Sensible (Sensible Soccer, Cannon Fodder), I-motion/Infogrames (Alone in the Dark, V-Rally) and Ubi Soft (Rayman, Street Racer).

Retro enough?

Core design isn't defunct...I'm sure they were Eidos property before Square Enix bought them.

Isn't Delphine the one who also made Heart of Darkness? (love that game but the story is awful)

Psychnosis isn't retro, they made WipeOut Fury.

I still have my Game Genie, brilliant cheats cartridge and Codemaster had a hit with F1 lately.

Most of them are gone which sucks but at least they made decent games...

As for being retro, I am sure Media Module, Lionhead and even SUMO are still making games for the PS3, 360 and Wii respectively.

Although I do think the best of European development was in the Computer Era of the 80's and Playstation Era.

Isn't Evolution British too?

Bullfrog so much. In their heyday they were churning out classics left, right and centre. Eidos has released some great games too. I used to love Team17 but their offerings haven't been good for quite a long time now. The last Worms game I really enjoyed was Armageddon.

European developers have also created some of the most compelling adventure games available.

Core Design were bought by Rebellion and became Rebellion Derby and after that crappy Rogue Warrior game shut their doors.

There's quite a number of good studios based in the UK who have released well-known titles. They just don't advertise themselves as British so many gamers (even ones in the UK) don't make the connection.

There's Ubisoft Reflections, based in Newcastle, who made the Destruction Derby and Driver series. There's also Introversion Sofware who developed Uplink, Darwinia, Multiwinia and DEFCON. Then there's Bizarre Creations in Liverpool who made Fur Fighters, Project Gotham Racing and Geometry Wars. We also have Traveller's Tales (TT Games) who worked on Sonic 3D Blast, Crash Bandicoot, Lego Star Wars, Lego Indiana Jones and Lego Batman.

Oh, and GTA IV? Developed by Rockstar North, based in Edinburgh, Scotland.

There's hardly any Manchester based developers I've realised...which makes me sad but oh well...

I think they're not advertised due to how modest they are...they don't want to look like they have done great games but that can be a bad thing. U.S Gold from Birmingham made excellent ports too.

I wish Micro Machines released on XBLA and PSN.

Wait...DICE is European!?! 0_o I thought they were Canadian.

There's Monumental(Moto GP) on the Quays and some indie developers/publishers in the City Centre like Connect2Media.

Of course (one of?) the biggest Manchester based developer, Software Creations, died with Acclaim.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Bizarre Creations. Project Gotham Racing is great, but I've spent countless hours with Geometry Wars.
