Anyone remember this? Was sort of like Resident Evil, with you taking the part of various different characters across time. Also had various clever visual and audio effects, to make you think your character was going mad.
One of the games I'm thinking of picking up from my GameCube days for a quick play again.
I played it recently this summer. Really good game and eerie atmosphere. The sanity effects are just crazy at times. I did have some issues with the control and combat was very frustrating in small hallways, but overall its still a great game. I would recommend picking it up. It has some great voice acting.
Yes, and I loved it. Played it through three times, one for each alignment. I haven't played a game with such a good story and script since. I know Silicon Knights went onto bigger and better things (pah!), but hope this recent patenting news means Nintendo are considering revisiting it in some form. Though I'm doubtful!
Btw, it had the best Nintendo Logo thingy ever!!! [youtube:7arbkP7pVpY]
Eternal Darkness had some issues, mostly because of when it was designed and released... but was a tremendous experience overall. If a sequel were ever announced it would be a game worth following and playing. The high expectations would really require that a lot of love went into the design and development though!
The game has pretty cool magic system, but it can feel complex and confusing at times mostly due to the weird symbols is uses. You may want to use a guide until you get used to using the magic. There are some pretty creepy levels and they all have such a different feel because you are using different characters. Some are poor fighters and others are better. The WWII medic level was pretty creepy and frightening. Overall if you like psychological horror titles its a good game to add to your collection.
I only bought this so I could get that Zelda Collection. I made a good choice as I actually quite like this game - unfortunately I have never finished it. It's so damn hard in places but I might just need a bit of practice. I haven't abandoned it though - I still put it in the Wii from time to time but, alas, I never get any further.
Might be time for another playthrough; haven't played it since playing through several times around release (hmm, seems like lately i've been on a 'Cube kick, replaying SMS, playing Four Swords Adv and Hitman 2 both for the first time, and constantly being mocked by my unfinished Beyond Good and Evil which i'll have to start over again one of these days).
Anyway, excellent game. Screw Psycho Mantis's data-file reading in MGS, this game really messed with your head. So awesome.
I've always wanted to play it, but I never bought it.

My brother's friend gave it to me for free a few years back. This is the only game that has ever scared me. It was either it was scary, or I stayed up playing it for so long that I was more easily scared. Either way, this game is 10x better than most of the games for the Gamecube. Get it NAO!
EDIT: And that was the only game that actually made me remember a script from a poem voluntarily.
“The revolution is not an apple that falls when it is ripe. You have to make it fall.” - "Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them."
This game was awesome. It was very Lovecraftian-style horror, and H.P Lovecraft is my favourite author. His sense of horror was more intelligent than belligerent, and when compared to a game like Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness, too, is the smarter option.
It's a pity it was developed by Silicon Knights, though. If there ever is a sequel, it'll take 10 years to develop.
I've been wanting to play this game for a while. I remember a friend of mine had it back in middle school...
"Don't make enemies, they'll stab your heart; don't make friends, they'll stab your back. Including me, including you, all men are trash. Don't love; don't be loved. Have nothing to do with other; live in isolation."
Good game, from what I remember of it. I did have a tendancy to get lost a lot in the mansion, though, and it was more creepy and disturbing than outright terrifying. Still, it's definitely a great game, and despite the awkward controls and combat, it was a lot of fun.
I remember getting this for the GCN back in the day and overall i thaught it was alright...Then again. i stopped playing it half way through because i just got tired of it. Not exactly my cup of tea, but i definitly liked how the game would trip you out from time to time visually.
I thought it was a good game. I was not disappointed with it, but I had heard such great things about it, I was expecting to be blown away. I finished it, and thought it was good. The story was great and I liked how the game was set up, but the gameplay itself wasn't stellar, and it got kind of annoying.
Oh I just remembered that bit where you hear that really loud banging coming from up the stairs. I have no idea if it's anything to do with the plot as I haven't made it very far yet, but it is actually quite scary as you're not entirely sure if it's coming from your TV or your own house for a moment.
