Topic: Earthbound Remake, maybe?

Since the original obviously can't be re-released, how about a remake? That would at least omit any pop culture references that are keeping the original from being re-released, and could be kept to its original 16-bit graphics. Sure, purists would be upset, but it'd at least be the original in some form (think Pokemon Fire Red).

The creator has already said he is done with the series. A remake is highly unlikely for a game that barely sold and is not being pursued by the mastermind behind the series. Nintendo of America suggested editing out the references, but Nintendo of Japan refused them.

It could be released for Wiiware with the same graphics, story and edit out the things that is stopping it from being released for snes. I'd pay 1500pts for it!

Except Nintendo already has a policy against emulated games on WiiWare.

Uhh, no, the series is not VERY successful. It was a bomb over here, and while it sold well in Japan, "VERY successful" is a stretch. Makes it sound like Final Fantasy-popular when in fact it was not at all outstanding, sales-wise.

Good

I'd love to see Earthbound but I don't think it would happen until like 2058 when The Beatles enter public domain, who in the right mind would wait 48 years just to play that game. Hell, by then it will be more outdated then those silent films from the 1890-1920s.

Anyways, I'm going to make a game similar to Earthbound and I'm not joking either. I'm actually taking online classes to make video games and I'm going to make a game very similar to this game.

Why don't they do the same thing they did to Chrono Trigger and remake the game as Earthbound DS?

I don't see how the game would age poorly. It's old already, and it's just as brilliant as it ever was.

That said, a compilation seems unlikely. There were far fewer legal issues with Mother 3 (the most noticeable being the very brief opening to Mr. Batty's theme, which would be an easy fix), but I wonder if NoA was concerned about the Magypsies (transvestite fairy things) and one scene particularly with some disturbing implications between one and Lucas. There's nothing explicitly wrong with it that would require a higher ESRB rating, but I still think they may be worried about it.

Still, if there were any hope for the compilation, NoA would not have waited this long to release Mother 3, would they have? Seems unlikely in the near future, but I'll hold out hope that all three see official English rerelease in my lifetime. That's not too much to ask.
