I'm not entirely sure what 'dissing' is but I get the feeling I'm probably not 'dissing' anybody. Now 'diss'cuss the Dreamcast or face my fiery wrath!

The Dreamcast was great (if a bit noisy)... I am also a big Saturn fan though you need to import to really appreciate that console.

First sight of Dreamcast running Ready 2 Rumble was almost as impressive a leap (visually speaking) as the first time I saw Mario 64, or Sonic the Hedgehog (Megadrive version). The 360 / PS3 visuals have not impressed me in the same way, which is why I'm happy to play Wii.

Games wise - where to begin, Rez, Shenmue 1 & especially 2, all those great SNK fighters, Ecco, Headhunter...
Shame Half-Life never made it, I still have a promotional leaflet advertising the port 'the best game ever - now on Dreamcast'.

Anyone else have the Japanese version of V3TB with the 'Project Berkley' promotional disc?

Ah...Shenmue

I have a finished, though unreleased copy of Half-Life. I can tell you, it looks the business, but the loading times are killing the fun, really.

With kind regards,

Thank you very much! I glad we could continue with this, I was afraid I'd have to start a new topic, and knowing my luck with discussion threads, it would've died 10 posts in.

Yeah, I always wanted a Saturn. I'm actually glad I waited as long as I did. Import Saturn games are surprisingly cheap nowadays. I'll be sure to pick one up next year so I can grab as many of those great Japanese games as I can! I already got Devil Summoner: Soul Hacker for 5 bucks in perfect condition - the best deal for a Shin Megami Tensei game I've ever seen!

And I remember when I first saw Sonic Adventure at my friend's cousin's house. I thought I had stepped into gaming heaven, it just seemed so amazing, especially since all I had played at that point were F-Zero X, Super Mario 64, Star Fox 64, and Super Smash Bros. - not exactly the most impressive games visually. No game has awed me that much on visuals alone, except maybe Halo 2 - I never new a Non-HD console could look that good!O_O (Pop-in totally ruined the effect, though) And I would LOVE to play Half-Life on the Sega Dreamcast, just to rub it into the faces of those PC playing snobs. Of course, after I was done playing I'd chuck it in the garbage, since I really can't stand the original Half-Life.

Virtua Fighter 3tb is the deepest fighter ever and an amazing creation by Yu Suzuki.

Not a boring game.

VF3 is amazing but it didn't receive the conversion it deserved in my eyes. I understand it was rushed to meet launch but when you look at the Soul Calibur conversion you can't help but think "what if?", and you can see the impact that had on future conversions of VF. Just a shame VF3 was the last one on a Sega machine, but at least Taka-Arashi is back now

Yes, VF3TB could have been visually better - what annoyed me more (as with SEGA Rally 2) was the bad PAL version. 50Hz and slightly compressed - this was after the Saturn versions of VF2 and SEGA rally were fully optimised and sped up for PAL regions. I ended up getting the import versions.
At least Sonic Adventure had the 60HZ mode...

I was never a fan of Virtua Fighters. I liked the gameplay, but the presentation was so bland. I prefer a more colorful game, like Fighting Vipers 2, myself.

Well plenty of recommendations, but for a game to avoid, Soul Fighter wow that game is awful just awful, from controls to animation its one big disaster, Soul Caliber it ain't nor is it Golden Axe brought into 3D as I remember it being promised.

Not every complaint has to be listened to, it was a good discussion going here and I'm glad to see the lock was overridden.

I've been thinking though on the whole DC subject. Crazy Taxi back in the day was pretty extreme albeit even short if you did the 10min run. I'm curious what people felt of the two and which they preferred. To me I think the 2nd felt slapped together, had some weird moments but was still good, yet the original was like magic as i could keep going on it.

If someone were to import some games using a gameshark cdx disc to bypass that stupid lockout in the bios, I'd highly suggest two damn good titles. I can't remember the totalaity of the name but there is a second 'mech' fighter like the localized Gundam 0079, it was also on PS2 I think it was Fed vs Zeon, grab it. But also, out of all the games under the name released, most have blown pretty hard, but Macross M3(aka Robotech) was a stellar title worth having.

Hmm I wonder why someone had complained for this thread to be closed - can't see any signs of hostility or anything in here. Strange.

Unfortunately I think that's another game that only got a UK release and not a US. I'm not certain, but I seem to remember hearing something like that. I have the game but not played it in years now - it's pretty good but looks kind of dated when compared to earlier releases like Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive 2.

If you're willing to sell it, let me know.

As for who complained, I have a pretty good idea, but I'm not in the mood to point fingers. Its in the past now. Lets leave it there.

Wait I know of a EU release title if you do in fact get the CDX that's so worth buying you'd be an idiot to ignore... Headhunter. My brother had a CDX and got this along with REZ and a few others and it really stood out as a hell of a good game. Do check it out using youtube or something to see it in action.

Definately agree that the conversion wasnt 100% perfect. Also had a simplified front end and no true 2 player mode. I had the japanese launch version so didnt have these 50hz problems (never saw a 50hz game running on my DC). Later replaced that with the american version which had better options (proper 2player).

Body textures were different and you could turn Shuns boat over but apart from that I cant see what the difference is visually, sonically, control wise and combo wise. It plays identical to the arcade. Absolutely IDENTICAL. If running in VGA you could be fooled that it was the arcade version. With the added non flat 3d environments I thought this game was the deepest fighter ever.

Shame this guy sucks whos playing it but visually this game looks like an arcade board running to me. Well done Genki

So its in options and extras that the game was a let down.

The saturn version of VF2 was good for its time but had floating backgrounds and loads of the advanced combos wouldnt work. Nearly all of Akira and Lau's because the damage protection and hit zones were different from the arcade.

Take it from a seasoned VF player who used to play the game regularly at londons Namco Wonderpark

I need the CDX to play Maken X, Shenmue 2, and Fighting Vipers 2, so I'll get a CDX for Xmas or something like that, and see if I can pick up a copy of Headhunters online.

ROOOOBOOOOOTEEEEEEEEEEEECH! Definitely gonna have to pick that one up for sure! And Federation Vs. Zeon was literally the only good Gundam game that came out on the PS2. I only rented it, though. Was there a UK release or something? The original Gundam just ain't as good without the Ocean Dub.

Dreamcast was pretty cool and I still have one but as good as the games were most were pretty shallow in comparison to other consoles. Having mostly arcade ports had both an upside and a downside. It really depends on my mood though. I go through phases of wanting to play quicker games that require skill and then into more deeper games that require thought and patience.

I go through phases like that too. Luckily there are enough of both to keep me interested no matter the mood.

MickeyMac - why wait until Christmas to get a CDX disc? I doubt they'd be any more than a fiver (aka pocket change in USD).

Anyway, sorry, but I can't sell my Fighting Vipers 2. I'm hardly what you'd call a game collector but if I ever buy and awesome game I like then I wont sell it. However....I do have some duplicate Dreamcast games I left at my parent's house years ago. I've been meaning to sell them so if there's anything in there that you might like I'll be sure to notify you of the ebay auction (yes, I'll ship to the US). I think I have a spare HeadHunter y'know - doubtful about Fighting Vipers but not seen what I have there in almost a decade.
