I never owned this game, because those bongos were crazy expensive. Well, apparently they're still expensive. However I like the DKC series, so I would to give this game a go as well... without the bongos. Has anyone experience with the regular GC controller in this game? Some say they're awful, but are they really that bad?

I actually purchased the game and bongos a couple years ago, for around $20. I actually prefer the controller over the bongos, but to each their own.

I actually picked up Donkey Konga 1 + Bongo for £6 at Cosmic Wheels in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, UK. For that price I had to get it (plus I now have four Bongos in total, excellent for Bongo parties)! Not the first time I got some games there really cheap.

Looking at the UK ebay, they don't seem that expensive. There is one that comes with 2 Bongos, Donkey Konga 1 and Donkey Konga 2 for £20 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NINTENDO-GAMECUBE-Wii-DONKEY-KONGA-...). Not a bad price if you ask me.

I actually picked up a Japan copy of Donkey Kong Jungle Beat for £7 (with other items to combine postage) and it really fun to play the bongos. You do look a bit silly playing it mind. I have the Japan copy, just to unlock one sound instrument in Donkey Konga 3, plus my brother sold his PAL copy.

They did port it to the Wii and that uses the Wii Remote and Nun Chuck. Never played that version myself, but if you don't fancy getting the Bongos, it is a cheaper option.

From what I know the Wii version is actually quite different. So I'd like to go with the original instead.

@Rintyrocks I'll be sure to check it out then!

I've never played with the bongos, but i do have the Wii version and i can tell you it's great. Combo's and highscores are the name of the game, not just beating the levels.

I played the game with the bongos, I loved it. It was also very innovated for a Donkey Kong game. The music is also very good.

I would get it with the bongos, because they make the game. Otherwise the game would've been a good but not amazing platformer, but playing a platformer with bongos is an experience I will never forget, if partially out of sheer wtf.

it's one game I'd like to have, I want to see how the bongos work on it since it's not a music game like Donkey Konga

The DK drum games used to be like $5 tops. There was a buy 2 get 1 deal, so I swiped up the whole set of DK games complete with bongoes for $10.

I've only played the Wii version. No bongos, but I still had quite a bit of fun with it, I definitely wouldn't say the game is ruined without them.
