Topic: Donkey Kong 64: Is there a way to reset everything?

Hi.

I just bought a used copy of the game and I noticed that everything in the "mystery menu" is unlocked. Since I've never played the game before, I want to reset it and unlock things by myself.

I tried deleting all three save files but the mystery menu is still unlocked.

Is there a secret button combination or something that erases the internal memory?

Greetings,
Omega

If i remember right, try holding down the start button on Controller 1 when you power on the 64. That should give you an option to blank that save data on the cart.

The Shpydarloggery
She-Ra is awesome. If you believe otherwise, you are clearly wrong.
Urban Champion is GLORIOUS.

I thought that too. Unfortunately this method seems only to work with certain games.
I thought about opening the cartridge and disconnect the battery. But this also doesn't work because the game saves its data on an EEPROM chip. No battery. No Luck.

I can't believe that they doesn't included a function to reset the game to factory settings. That is really not so good.

The mystery stuff is just to replay everything you will play in the game. Just start a new file and enjoy.

QUEEN OF SASS

It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

I've heard that the options in the mystery menu are unlocked by catching a certain number of fairies. Is it stil possible to catch those fairies again when everything is already unlocked?

Yes.

Okay. Then it seems the "problem" with the leftover save data is not as bad as I thought. Glad I can stop trying to ruin my cartridge now. Thanks for the info.
